Hydro One announces scheduled power outage in Greater Sudbury

Scheduled Hydro One power outages are scheduled this weekend in Greater Sudbury. It will allow the company to make system upgrades. This will result in a planned power outage on Saturday, Oct. 2, and Sunday, Oct. 3.
The Saturday outage will last from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. It will affect approximately 3,200 Hydro One customers in Lively and the Townships of Waters and Eden.  The Sunday outage will happen from 6:30am – 2pm. It will impact approximately 700 Hydro One customers in the Lake Panache area, including the Township of Dieppe and Louise. It will also affect some customers in Atikameksheng Anishnawbek.  In addition, approximately 4,500 Hydro One customers will experience a power outage from 4-10 p.m. in the Garson, Skead, Wahnapitae, Scadding, and Dryden.
It will also affect all customers in Falconbridge.
 

$10 million housing complex coming to Gogama

EACOM Timber Corp. is spending $10 million to build a new, 44-unit housing complex. It’s in Gogama and is expected to benefit, recruit and retain employees at the sawmill from workers who need to travel from communities, such as Timmins. It will replace 12 existing housing units and would include a food catering service for employees
 

Sundridge looking into beautification project

Sundridge is looking to spruce things up with a beautification project. The hope is to bring planters out each spring and store them away over the winter. The idea is being presented as a “spring, flower wonderland.” The key will be to find flowering trees that don’t grow too tall and don’t drop fruit onto the ground.
 

VALE Seeding Program takes flight, starting today

Vale’s annual aerial seeding program takes flight once again. Its take place between October 1 – October 10 and uses helicopters. Vale’s aerial seeding program targets barren land requiring reclamation around the Company’s operations. The Vale program, which started in 1990, has treated more than 4,000 hectares (10,000 acres) of land to date.
 

Timmins Police looking for Vandals

Timmins Police are looking for those responsible for vandalizing vehicles. It happened sometime during the late hours of Sept. 19 and the early morning of Sept. 20. Thirteen vehicles were vandalized on Lakeshore Road. The culprits used a sharp object to carve words and other markings in the paint of all of these vehicles with estimated damage being calculated at well over $5,000.
 

Elliot lake green-lights rebuild of Hillside Drive

And Elliot Lake City Council has pre-approved a complete rebuild of Hillside Drive. It’s from Highway 108 up to Hutchison Avenue. The plan will go forward to the 2022 city budget process. It will involve the road and underground infrastructure including water, sanitary and storm sewers, along with curbs and sidewalks. It’s expected to cost $6M and take two years.
 

OPP rolls out a new “Tow Program”

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is launching a Tow Program. As part of a larger commitment to enhancing public safety, the goal is to mitigate the increase in what police call criminality in Ontario’s towing industry. The new program includes significant changes to the way the OPP requests services from and interacts with Tow & Storage Service Operators and introduces a list of requirements services must meet before they can provide tow and storage services for police-requested work.
