OPP search the North Cobalt area in Melanie Ethier Case

Temiskaming OPP remains on scene in the north Cobalt area. Reports say a search is underway in relation to the Melanie Ethier investigation. They are expected to be at the scene for two days. No further investigation has been released. There is no concern for public safety and people are asked to avoid the area.
 

Warning of a new scam, targeting seniors

Greater Sudbury Utilities is warning seniors of a new scam targeting older adults. They say someone has been calling, claiming to work for the Ontario government and promising rebates for Ontarians over 75 years of age. The caller then asks for account information and passwords and arranges appointment times for a visit to the customer’s home. The GSU says it’s all a scam, and to hang up.
 

Mattawa Town Council welcomes spectators

Mattawa town council had spectators at their meeting last night, a first in some time. Council says the doors will remain open for those who wish to attend. COVID-19 protocols will be in full effect, and attendees “will be required to self-screen upon entry”
 

Road reopens, following rollover

Lake Street between MacDonald Avenue and Creery Avenue in Sault Ste Marie has been reopened following a vehicle rollover. The single-vehicle collision took place yesterday on Lake Street near Creery Avenue. As a result, the Lake Street southbound lane was closed from MacDonald Avenue to Creery Avenue for a time. There is no word as to the cause, nor injuries.
 

Possible Passport Forgeries circulating Greater Sudbury

Public Health Sudbury and Districts are warning businesses of potential forgeries when it comes to vaccination passports. Reports from the health unit indicate they have been circulating in the city. Police say using a forged document could result in a criminal charge.
 

Pilot Project being considered for Sault area bus service

Sault Ste Marie city council is set to consider the outcomes of a pilot project providing limited bus service to Pointe des Chenes. The project, to be discussed at budget time, ran weekends from Saturday, June 26, 2021, until Monday, Sept. 6, 2021, including statutory holidays that transit regularly runs. Over the course of the summer, there were 419 rides.
 

Police investigating Vehicle damage in Greater Sudbury

Sudbury Police are investigating after several seniors had their vehicle windows smashed in. It happened to vehicles during thanksgiving. At least 11 vehicles at Place Nolin in the Flour Mill and in the Minnow Lake area were damaged during the night. A number of items were taken.
 

Backpacks needed for those in need

A group known as the Compassionate Committee for the Homeless in North Bay is putting together backpacks of new and donated essential items for those in need. Their goal is 150 backpacks and 150 supplemental bags. Items include Towelette packs and wipes, and warming items like gloves and scarves. A full list of needed items, and drop-off dates can be found below.
Donations of new items will be accepted at the New Apostolic Church, 46 Joseph St. from 1 to 3 pm on Saturday, October 23, and Saturday, November 6.
Items needed include:
Backpack – Camping Style – Approximately 45L, Travel packs of facial tissue, Silver Emergency Blanket, Granola bars/Energy bars, Tarp, Drawstring bag,  Mini First Aid Kit, Reusable bag, Pack of heavy socks, Towelette pack/wipes,
Winter slippers, Flashlight, Package of masks, Lip balm, Reusable water bottle, Pkg of hand and foot warmers, Travel containers for soap, Mitts/Gloves, Deodorant, Toque, Toothpaste, Scarf, Travel containers for toothbrushes, Hairbrush, Toilet paper, Feminine products.
