APH declares COVID-19 outbreak at Grand View Public School

Algoma Public Health (APH) has declared an outbreak of COVID-19 outbreak at Grand View Public School. Ministry of Education says an outbreak is declared in a school once it has been determined that within a 14-day period, two individuals tested positive for COVID-19 at least one case could have acquired their infection in the school setting, and there are characteristics that link the two cases.
 

State of Emergency remains in effect for Greater Sudbury

Sudbury Mayor Brian Bigger has announced that he will not be lifting the State of Emergency anytime soon. The state of emergency has been in place since April 6, 2020. He said in a statement that the Medical Officer of Health says Greater Sudbury currently has one of the highest case rates in the province.
 

Operation warmth up and running North Bay

Operation Warmth is up and running in the North Bay area once again. Several area groups are teaming up to ensure that children and families have warm coats for winter.
Gently used coats can be brought to Low Income People Involvement (LIPI) at 127 Main Street East in North Bay through Friday, November 4th, from 10 am to 2 pm.
Coats can be picked up at the Salvation Army, which is located at 134 McIntyre St East.
The first pick-up date is Saturday, November 6th, from 9 am to 4 pm.
The other two days are Monday, November 8th, and Tuesday, November 9th, again from 9 am to 4 pm both days.
Organizations involved this year include LIPI, Rebuilt Resources, Crisis Centre North Bay, AIDS Committee of North Bay and Area, and The Salvation Army.
 

Hunting course now available online

The Ontario Hunter Education Course is now firing up online. It gives students an option to take the course on their own time. Hunters who need to take the course can still train in person with an instructor. Both options require students to pass an exam. You can register for either in-person or online training through the province’s website.
 

Angus is now NDP Spokesperson for Natural Resources

Timmins-James Bay MP Charlie Angus has been named the party’s spokesperson for natural resources. With that, comes a specific focus on jobs and the coming energy transition. The move comes as the NDP claims Canada continues to miss the targets promised on the international stage to lower greenhouse gas emissions.
 

A string of fires under investigation

West Nipissing Police are investigating a number of fires, they say are suspicious. It was called in Saturday, at approximately 5:30 p.m. They happened at a lodge in the Temagami River area. In all, three Recreational Vehicles and a storage shed were engulfed in flames. The West Nipissing Fire Department was on scene to bring the fires under control. The Office of the Fire Marshal (OFM) has been called in to investigate.
 

East Algoma OPP looking for stolen motors

East Algoma OPP is asking for assistance in regards to numerous outboard boat motors declared stolen. They were allegedly taken from two locations in Blind River last week. All 4-stroke motors, two 2018 Hondas, a 225 and 9.9 horsepower are missing, along with a 2020 Yamaha’s, a 60 horsepower 2016 Yamaha 40 horsepower have been taken.
 

Connecting Link work underway with a new schedule

A revised schedule for the Connecting Link work in Timmins is on its way. This is after the city’s public works manager pitched a new phasing plan for work along the Highway 101 corridor through the city. The proposal comes after a successful year of work on Algonquin Boulevard from the Mattagami bridge to Theriault Boulevard. That is expected to open to traffic this week.
 

“Slow down for our Kids” signs up

Signs encouraging drivers to slow down remain up in Sault Ste Marie’s Ward 1 area, asking motorists to slow down. Intended for this past weekend, they will remain in place until the end of November. ‘Slow down for our kids’ signs have been placed along the road in various locations in the area. Police continue to conduct speed enforcement into the workweek.
