Paul is writing a letter to the church in Rome. The entire theme of the letter is this: No matter what your heritage is, no one is grandfathered into salvation. It doesn’t matter who you know, or how you grew up, everyone needs the saving work of Jesus Christ. Moreover, that is only available through repentant faith. The greatest of love imaginable would be done for us by Christ on the cross, long before any of us even knew we were sinners. Salvation now is available through repentant faith to anyone who turns from their wrongdoing and to the finished work of Christ on the Cross. It’s the single most important message in all of history.
