New Spaces created to ease overcrowding at HSN

Space for 40 patients is being created to ease overcrowding at HSN’s Ramsey Lake Health Centre. They’re being made a two seniors facilities in the community. Extendicare and Autumnwood have been approved for the move. In the past month, HSN has had a daily occupancy of 550 admitted patients, with a peak of 579 admissions. The hospital was built for 440.
 

Greater Police looking for missing woman: 39-year-old Beau-Ashley Verkuil

Greater Sudbury Police Service is seeking the public’s help in locating a missing woman. 39-year-old Beau-Ashley Verkuil was last seen on Monday in the area of Burton Avenue at approximately 9:30 p.m. She is described as 39 years of age, 5’10”, 120 lbs, with dyed-blonde shoulder-length hair that is wavy and usually in a bun. Her eye colour is brown.
Public Health Sudbury and Districts is reported one new COVID-19 death. The second in just as many days, no details were provided.
 

“Castle” looking for Heritage Designation Status

The town of Sundridge is looking at assigning the oldest building in the community a heritage designation status. The home in question is the former Steirerhut Restaurant Schnitzel House, known to locals as The Castle because of it’s appearance. Those who take over the building would be required to maintain it.
 

One Positive Case of COVID-19 at St Mary’s College

One positive COVID case has been reported at St. Mary’s College in Sault Ste Marie. As it stands now, No ‘outbreak,’ has been declared, but one person self isolated.
 

Resident arrested after yelling, banging on Mayor’s Door

A Sudbury resident has some explaining to do, after being caught making quite the noise, banging on Sudbury Mayor Brian Bigger’s front door. It happened in the middle of the afternoon Tuesday. The Mayor, who was at home at the time, called the Police and the suspect, who left was located and arrested late last night. He will be in court in January.
Calvin Township is looking for two new councillors. This is following the resignations of two council members, Heather Olmstead and Dan Maxwell. Once a councillor leaves, the municipality must officially declare the position vacant and decide upon how to fill that role as per the Municipal Act.
 

Teams in North Bay staying put, for now

North Bay School sporting events and field trips to Sudbury and Algoma… are a no-go until further notice. The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit has “recommended that teams not travel to or from the areas of Sudbury and Algoma. Until further notice due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases. That said, school teams from those districts will not be allowed to participate to North Bay.
 

Bikes up for auction in at North Bay Police

The North Bay Police Service is hoping an online auction roll out what they cann a significant backlog of recovered bikes. They’ve been pilling up inside the North Bay Police Service Garage as well as inside a large storage container. They have more than 200 bikes in the garage. They are only sold when all attempts to find rightful owners are exhausted.
 

North Bay Water Bills, Trash tags are going up in price

If you live in North Bay, your Monthly water bills are going up. Council has approved the water and wastewater operating budget at just over $24 million. Up about 2.3 percent from last year, that means an extra $2.38 a month for an average household consuming 14 cubic metres of water. Also, approved? The $2 per tag for extra containers of trash. That starts January 1st, 2022 and is up from the current ‘buck-a-bag’.
 

Sault Ste Marie looking for bidders for city projects

The City of Sault Ste. Marie is looking for bidders on some of their city projects, yet to be done. City council heard Monday that a request for proposal for the transit terminal relocation project was tendered twice before two bids were received. The city usually has at least six vendors for these types of projects.
 

Heavy Police presence on Mountjoy Street South in Timmins

Details are expected today on exactly what brought out a heavy Police presence to a Mountjoy Street South apartment building in Timmins. It was between First and Commercial Avenues. Traffic was being restricted through the area Wednesday evening.
 

Possible COVID-19 exposures in the Sault Ste Marie region

APH is advising of potential high-risk exposure at the Sault Ste. Marie YMCA. It’s for November 11th. The APH says anyone present in the women’s general change room, the men’s general change room and/or the family change room between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. were potentially exposed.
APH is also advising of a potential low-risk exposure at the Thessalon Curling Club on Nov. 9 between 6:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. as well as Nov. 11 between the same times.
