Registration for volunteer ski patrol in Greater Sudbury is approaching. Sign-up starts next week for the Adanac and Lively ski hills.

The city of North Bay is replacing current rink buildings at three outdoor rink locations. They include Graniteville Playground, Greenhill Park, and Police Park.

In Timmins, Northern Ontario mining suppliers are heading to Las Vegas later this month to participate in MINExpo 2024. The well-received Northern Ontario Mining Showcase (NOMS) will also be in the city at the end of the month for the global mining tradeshow.

A special meeting of Cochran Town Council goes this week. It’s all for the purpose of reviewing and discussing the Code of Conduct Policy for Council Members, Members of Local Boards, along with Complaint Protocol and Relations Policy.

The City of Elliot Lake is asking the public to avoid the Woodland Cemetery area this week. Construction work in the area that includes the use of heavy machinery is being done.

Sault MPP Ross Romano says the opportunity is now open for hundreds of new homes in new neighbourhoods north of Third Line. Today, Romano announced $7.4 million in provincial funding to increase sewer capacity, allowing construction of 398 new homes.

Five new student businesses in Greater Sudbury were able to get started this Summer with some help from the city. It was all done through the Summer Company program. Facilitated by the city’s Regional Business Centre and backed by the provincial government, the initiative offers entrepreneurs up to $3,000 each in Startup grants.

It’s been nearly 70 years since flooding and high flows from Hurricane Hazel damaged Depot Creek, a tributary of Lake Nosbonsing. And restoration work continues thanks to over $2,200 in funding from the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters, with the Greater Nipissing Stewardship Council contributing nearly $1,800.

In Cochrane, Sixth Street from Fourth Avenue to Sixth Avenue is now in its final month of closure, hopefully… closed since early June for sanitary and storm sewer infrastructure upgrades … it’s on track to open in less than 3 weeks.

A coalition of public and indigenous health services is buying the Ramada Inn in Timmins. It’s all with the goal of converting it into what it calls a “Wellness Centre of Excellence.”

As the Queen Street reconstruction continues in downtown Sault Ste Marie, Brock Street north of Queen will be closed on tomorrow and Friday, to finalize paving work there.

A number of residents in Providence Bay on Manitoulin Island had their cake… and got to eat it too… commemorating 150 years of the Canada Post office serving the community. Central Manitoulin Mayor Richard Stephens presented the postmaster with a certificate recognizing the historic occasion…. Photos of the celebration wound up on a number of social media pages, as it was an event worth posting.

Greater Sudbury Police are looking for information following a weekend fire. It happened on Lloyd Street September 1st. No injuries were reported, but two people were displaced.

West Nipissing has received a FedNor grant of $50,000 all to complete an environmental study for the former Sturgeon Falls mill site. It will be underway this fall and winter.

The city of Timmins municipal heritage registry has doubled. The city hall building at 220 Algonquin Blvd. has been to the register. It’s the second building in the city to be added to the list.

As the Queen Street reconstruction in Sault Ste continues downtown, Brock Street north of Queen will be closed tomorrow and Friday all to finalize paving work there.

Meanwhile in Elliot Lake the portion of Hillside Drive North between Ontario Avenue and Spruce Avenue is now open to the public. That said, the intersection of Ontario and Hillside Drive North is currently a three-way stop. Hillside Drive North between Beech Road and Spruce Avenue r emains closed.

Plans heat up for the 148th edition of the Manitowaning Fall Fair. It happens this coming weekend. Those interested in participating should call the township.
