Testing and monitoring of Greater Sudbury’s drinking water networks will begin Tuesday in Falconbridge, Capreol, Copper Cliff, Lively and Naughton. As part of this study, hydrant flow tests will be performed, which may result in brief periods of reduced water pressure and discolored water in areas closest to testing locations.

Construction value up in Timmins, but little of that is new housing. The city’s building division did received a total of 294 building permits in 2023 (207 residential and 87 non- residential), collecting over $1.6 million in building permit fees from over $143 million in construction value… that said, only eleven new homes built in 2023.
Sault Ste. Marie Police Service is requesting public assistance to locate a missing man. Darren Blais is 41. Blais has not been heard from since June and is described as being five feet, six inches tall with a medium build and brown eyes.
Greater Sudbury Police Service staff have plans to begin rolling out body-worn cameras as part of a pilot project in 2025. Information on finances and timelines is expected during the Greater Sudbury Police Board’s Oct. 16 meeting.

Fire crews were on the scene of a house fire on Willowdale Street in Sault Ste Marie yesterday. At one point, the garage and the second floor were fully engulfed in flames. Thankfully everyone is okay. Fire crews were able to extinguish the bulk of the fire by about 7:15 p.m.
Officials in the City of Timmins say the state of Municipal Road, which connects Timmins and Iroquois Falls, may soon enough… be gravel. It is, according to reports, beyond repairing and they may have to turn it into gravel just to maintain safety. Timmins is trying to convince the province to intervene.
The Greater Sudbury Airport will play host of a large-scale safety exercise Wednesday, that’s tomorrow, in which an aircraft incident will be simulated. It’s expected to last 12-hours. Alongside airport staff, Greater Sudbury Emergency Management Division members, police, firefighters and EMS crews will participate.
Meals on wheels in North Bay says they’re in need of drivers. It’s all to deliver meals to sick, elderly or those with other issues. In short they say a Hot meals are delivered by volunteers who provide regular social contact and a security check.
In Timmins… just like Algonquin Blvd., the bridge over the Frederickhouse River at Hoyle is still on track to be back in use in November. As work continues, the cities infrastructure director Scott Tam says there was some concern a couple weeks due to weather, but they can still keep going.
