There were thankful no injuries in an electrical fire on Clement Street in Capreol just ahead of the weekend. Six crews were called and and a fire to excavator and house were put out.

The treatment beds that were slated to go into the former North Bay Chrysler building on Lakeshore Drive will now be located within existing space between the North Bay Regional Health Centre and Canadian Mental Health Association. This is after the CMHA were awarded the contract.

A special meeting in Timmins goes today on address community safety. Council will discuss spending more for businesses to improve security.

Christmas lights shine a little brighter at nearly 10 homes recognized by City of Sault Ste. Marie’s Holding Lighting awards. While no nominations were received for businesses, all nominated properties can be viewed on the city’s website.

December marks a momentous occasion for Elliot Lake Secondary School as it celebrates a remarkable milestone in the life of its head custodian and building operator, Len Gillis. In 1984, at just 20 years of age, Gillis first stepped into his role as Head Custodian, and since then, he has become an integral part of the school community, greeting students, staff, and visitors every morning with a smile and when it comes to popularity certainly cleans up!

Extendicare Countryside in Greater Sudbury has been told by the Province… they’re not to take any new residents. The 256-bed facility on Algonquin Road has been open less than a year and said it has experienced challenges since moving into a new building.

EV charging stations are now live at more locations in the Near North. This includes Sundridge where a station has now been put up at Lions Park.

And, they’re not alone… a fast-charging EV station is expected to be installed in downtown New Liskeard. That one is coming in the new year, expected to be in by fall of 2025.

In Sault Ste Marie, concerning heat issue at Davey Home has been repaired. They did release a statement saying “The heat source for the home was not fully lost, however the air exchanger was bringing in untempered air. At no time did the building lose its capacity to provide heat, and as of this afternoon the issue had been resolved.”

From the good news file, Community members pitch in to provide toys for dogs at the Sault Ste. Marie Humane Society half a dozen dogs or so where they taken into a room full of toys in order to pick out one for themselves… a fun and joyful after a somewhat ruff go for some.

It’s time to scrap on the skates… Greater Sudbury Queen’s Athletic Skating Oval is now open for the season. That said, due to fluctuations in temperatures, hours of operation may change without notice.

More electrical vehicle stations are coming to Northern Ontario. One has been installed in Sundridge at Lion’s Park. Another will be going in, in 2025 in New Liskeard.

To the wild-world of sports, Ex-Hounds coach Dave Cameron who coached the Hounds in the late-1990s, will be behind the bench for Team Canada when the world junior hockey championship begins on Boxing Day.

Snow removal continues in Timmins this week. It happens mostly during the overnight hours. Crews will be in Timmins on Toke, Ross, Jubilee. Drivers are reminded a winter parking ban is in place.
