It’s the first day back to school for many, and Ontario’s community college faculty say they could strike as soon as this Thursday. This is after six months of bargaining, during which time college faculty and management have been unable to agree on a new contract.

If you think it’s cold outside, you’re not alone. With the wind chill to reach -20 degrees in Greater Sudbury this morning, the Homelessness Network of Sudbury has extended its Extreme Cold Weather Alert.

New year, and new budgets. The city of North Bay’s $27.5 million water and wastewater budget for 2025 is up for discussion next week. It includes a proposed increase of 4.99% or $1.31 million.

Timmins Transit says with the New Year, there is a new option to pay for a ride. As of today, all Timmins Transit buses will have electronic fare boxes.

Greater Sudbury says, so far… there are 29 plan-takers to date to manage the Cultural Hub at Tom Davies Square project’s construction. Interested parties for the city’s request for prequalification’s include construction companies both sides of the border.

North Bay and area snow depth is below normal… according to the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority that is… but it’s still more than this time last year. Average snow depth for all sites is 14.4 cm at all sites.

Speaking of snow… snow removal continues in Timmins. Today? On the Connecting Link: Specifically, on Riverside (Norman to Shirley), and Commercial Ave.

Visiting hours are being limited on a medical unit at Sault Area Hospital. It’s all because of an outbreak of a what they’re calling a superbug. It was declared Jan. 1 on medical unit 3C and remains in effect.

Sudbury’s hospital is looking for new voices. Health Sciences North (HSN) and the its Research Institute are soliciting applications from residents of Northeastern Ontario who would be interested in serving a renewable term of up to three years on the hospital board.

Christmas is in the rearview mirror and North Bay says if you’re looking to drop off the tree… you can do so at the Public Works Yard until next Wednesday.

With overnight temperatures expected to drop, the City of Timmins has issued an extreme cold weather alert. The mercury’s expected to drop overnight to -32 C with the windchill.

Sault Ste. Marie Police say a person reported missing before the NY has been located safe and sound. 31-year-old Desni Syrette has been located safe and sound.
