
In an effort to get more housing built in Greater Sudbury, a proposal to the city has been submitted to allow for residential infill lots. It’s all to carry multi-unit residential buildings with as many as 10 units.
A fire at a Hydro One distribution station early Wednesday left thousands without power in Greater Sudbury, Ont. Hydro One officials said the fire broke out at approximately 4:40 a.m. Local emergency crews safely extinguished the fire, noting there were no injuries.
Barely into July and the number of job postings in Nipissing in May was almost identical month-over-month. The Labour Market Group reports 564 job postings that month, up 1.4% from April, but down just over 9% compared to May last year.

In Richard’s Landing… Matthews Memorial Hospital’s ER to be shuttered from 8 a.m. Friday to 8 a.m. Sunday. It’s all due to a doctor shortage. The emergency department at North Shore Health Network’s Richards Landing site is slated to shoulder a two-day closure.

The City of Elliot Lake has shuttered all amenities at the Ruben Yli-Jutti Centre. The closure is indefinite. It affects the pool, gym, sauna and other accessories. The centre had just recently reopened following renovations.

Gore Bay town council has turned down a request from the company known as WEST for a waterline connection from the town to its proposed advanced waste recovery plant on property that is located beside the transfer station in Gordon/Barrie Island. The concern is that it would impact future water capacity for the town.
Urban Park season is underway in Timmins. The first of the weekly events happened yesterday. The popular event features a market with farmers, artisans, small businesses and community organizations. It runs on Wednesdays in July and August from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Third Avenue.
And a 12-year-old chess champ from Cochrane is off to Surrey, B.C. to compete in the national championships. Grayson Mineault says his Dad started teaching him the game at four years old. He started playing in school and joining chess clubs. Grayson already has three gold medals and a bronze at the provincials in Sturgeon Falls. He’s ranked in the top 30 in his category of 113 competitors at the nationals… and when it comes to going national, he’s certainly on board.
