
Laurentian University’s new Institute for Northern Housing Innovation has secured Provincial Funding. More than $500,000 dollars ($512,544) in funding from the Ministry of Colleges, Universities, Research Excellence and Security through the Training, Equipment and Renewal Fund (TERF).
North Bay is in full bloom as national judges are in town. Two national judges review community appearance, environmental action, heritage conservation, tree management, landscape, as well as plant and floral displays. North Bay earned a five-out-of-five bloom rating last year, and a special mention for Northern Pines Crisis Centre.
Timmins Police Service is asking for the public’s help in locating a missing youth. 13-year-old Cameron is a white male, approximately five feet eight inches and 140 pounds, with a thin build. He has brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt, blue shorts, and yellow Nike shoes. He was also carrying a black backpack.

Two kayakers are doing okay after getting lost on the Onaping River this week. Evidently, the Royal Canadian Air Force was called in a chopper. It happened at around 11:30 p.m. yesterday. The two are in good health.
Residents are being reminded to keep their food and garbage secure after more than 30 bear sightings were reported to the province in the last two months, especially in one area, just north of the Town of Parry Sound. Thankfully, there have been no incidents nor reported injuries.

Samuel de Champlain Provincial Park will remain closed for the 2025 season. Ontario Parks made the announcement yesterday, noting the severe storm on June 21, resulted in extensive damage from the falling trees, and conditions remain hazardous.
New findings from CAA South Central Ontario (CAA SCO) say Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) is changing driver behavior. According to the research, ASE cameras are influencing habit changes in drivers in two ways: drivers are either slowing down or avoiding ASE cameras altogether.
A former church on Melville Road in Sault Ste Marie will become a 12-unit rooming house. The property owner submitted a rezoning application, which was approved by the city council. The rooming house will include three shared washrooms, two kitchens, and laundry facilities.
Helicopters will drop weed killer on some North Shore forested areas this summer. MNR says the glyphosate-based herbicide is meant to help the regeneration of conifer trees that have been cut down.
