UPDATE: A 28 hour stand off with Police is over. The standoff between one man and police in Verner came to an end around at 5:00p.m last night with two people being arrested. West Nipissing Police say one man faces charges of possessing a weapon dangerous to the public peace, careless use of a firearm and unsafe storage of a firearm, while the woman, believed to be an American, is being held on a warrant issued by the Canada Border Services Agency.

Highway 64 remains closed in the Verner area because of a police standoff. Reports say the incident began yesterday afternoon when West Nipissing Police went to a Verner residence “to ensure peace was maintained while a process server served notice upon the residence’s occupant.” At last report, the tenant remains in the residence and police have the premises contained. The incident is ongoing.
