St. James Anglican Church in Cobalt is looking into options and support all to keep their building open. The over 100-year-old structure is in need of repair and they’ve put out the call for help.

Laurentian University says the union representing its faculty will be sharing a proposed contract with striking members this coming weekend. Contract talks resumed this week. In a brief news release issued yesterday, the university says it hopes the strike will be resolved and if so, classes could resume as early as middle of next week.

West Nipissing says it will be continuing its service agreement with the Household Hazardous Waste Depot in North Bay. The municipality says the decision was made by council in response to resident feedback. As a result, the planned Household Hazardous Waste Day in West Nipissing will not take place, and services will remain unchanged.

Four people escaped a morning fire in the south end of Timmins.  The call came at around 7am yesterday. It happened on Elm Street South. Upon arrival, light smoke was visible from the rear of the building due to a burning mattress in the basement. The fire was quickly extinguished, and the mattress was removed from the building.

A boil water advisory is in place for some Elliot Lake residents. The city says those in 1 to 28 Cedar Place should use boiled water for any activity where water may be ingested0. Any water consumed must be brought to a rolling boil for at least 1 minute. This follows a water main break in the areas yesterday, causing a service disruption.

Sault Ste Marie police service is reminding drivers to be careful. They say some road in the Soo & Prince Township are a little icy and slushy.  They add it’s important to slow down, scrape all the ice you’re your windows, leave plenty of space between your vehicle and the one ahead of you, and to forgo the cruise control option with slick surfaces.

If you don’t know, now you know… the city of Elliot Lake says, more than a month in 2026 and pet tags are required for all dogs.  Spayed and Neutered go for $10 while non go for $20. They add that animal tags can be obtained through contacting the township.

Maple syrup producers from across North America will be in Sault Ste. Marie in October for their annual industry conference. More than 200 delegates are expected to tap into the event.
