Eight roadways will receive traffic calming infrastructure this year. Although the city has various traffic-calming options, staff say they will likely use speed humps at eight locations due to cost and relatively well received. The full list of roads is below. The eight locations slated to receive permanent traffic-calming infrastructure this year include the following:

• Brenda Drive (Moonrock Avenue to St Charles Lake Road)
• Lansing Avenue (Lasalle Boulevard to Maley Drive)
• Grandview Boulevard (Montrose Avenue to Wedgewood Drive)
• Bancroft Drive (Kingsway to Bellevue Avenue)
• King Street (Morin Avenue to Notre Dame Avenue)
• Kelly Lake Road (Southview Drive to Copper Street)
• Robinson Drive (Kelly Lake Road and Southview Drive)
• Auger Avenue (Lasalle Boulevard to Gemmell Street)

Accessibility improvements are being made in Powassan. Just over $45,000 for the municipality come from the Province. Projects include Accessibility Act compliant steps at the public pool, rollout pathways, and accessible picnic tables.

City council members are ready to move on to a new encampment location. During the latest city council meeting some expressed the need to move forward identifying an encampment location where houseless can set up without with being taken down.

The Children’s Aid Society of Algoma is launching monthly virtual foster parent information sessions; it’s aimed at providing community members with the knowledge and resources needed to support children in care. The first session is Thursday, March 5th.

A weekend of fun is still ahead as the Englehart Winter Carnival runs until Sunday. It began Wednesday, with games, inflatables, community volleyball and more. A complete schedule of events can be found on the Englehart Recreation & Events Facebook page.

And it was a rare check in at a German ER this past week to say the least. A bird came tapping on the window with a hook stuck in its beak. While it’s not clear how it became lodged… doctors laboured to get it out. All said and done, the bird is fine, and medical personal will take care of the bill.

The OPP is asking drivers to be more diligent when it comes to the school bus. This is after a 43-year-old man from Sudbury was fined nearly $500 after passing a stopped school bus while Ontario Provincial Police officers watched from across the highway. It happened earlier this week, while Police were on a routine patrol.
