A new leader of the Timmins Chamber has been named. Kaitlin Wheeler takes over the helm of the business organization on March 9. And replaces longtime CAO Keitha Robson, who retired at the end of last month She has served on the Chamber’s board for the last two years.

The Four Algoma-area school boards have approved a common 2026-27 calendar. Families in Blind River, Elliot Lake, Sault Ste. Marie and other area communities can expect nearly identical school-year dates as this year. It’s now been sent to the Province for approval.

Electra Battery Materials has provided a date and a budget to finally fire up its Temiskaming-area cobalt refinery. The Toronto developer expects to have the plant up and operating by late 2027 and believes it can do with a $100-million construction budget that will create 50 jobs.

Glencore’s Kidd Operations in Timmins has a new lease on life. The legacy mine marking its 60th anniversary, slated for closure this year has been acquired by the Discovery. It includes the Kidd metallurgical site, tailings management, and the copper, zinc and silver mine.

Sault Ste. Marie Police say they have located a person who had been reported missing. Police say Josiah Sutherland was last seen January 8th in the 0-100 block of Herrick Street. While the details have not been released, he is listed as safe, and the public is being thanked.

The city is inviting all clubs/organizations in Elliot Lake to an upcoming Community Groups Showcase. Happening in the middle of next month at Collins Hall the event will allow members of the community to come learn about a club or group and hopefully boost enrollment.

Armstrong Township is looking to improve groundwater monitoring at its landfill site in Beauchamp Township. The existing monitoring wells are not producing usable data. Without that a conservative approach in the assessment of the landfill lifespan is needed.
