Premier will not close public beaches, despite an increase in numbers

In Ontario, health officials ended the weekend by reporting 138 additional cases of COVID-19. All but four public health units recorded five or fewer new cases.  Meanwhile, Ontario’s premier says even with the heat, as residents flock to beaches… he won’t order provincial beaches to close. He says instead, residents should use common sense.

There is no definitive word yet as to when the Province is set to move into stage three.
 

Two missing residents in North Bay, Sudbury

Stephen Aultman

North Bay police are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a missing man. Stephen Aultman is 48. He was last seen Friday at Northgate Shopping Centre. His family was expecting him back home after the short shopping trip but have had no contact with him since that time. Aultman is described as 5’ 8” tall weighing 175lbs with short black hair. He normally travels on a white coloured Santa Cruz mountain bike.
He has a tribal tattoo on his left bicep and scars on his right leg. He was wearing a black ball cap, grey t-shirt with a red logo on the front, green khaki shorts and black-and-white Vans-style shoes. Aultman normally travels on a white-coloured Santa Cruz mountain bike.
Police are concerned for Aultman’s well-being and are requesting anyone with relevant information regarding this matter to call 705-472-1234.

Garry Poulin

Greater Sudbury Police have requested the public’s assistance in locating 48-year-old. Garry Poulin. He was last seen July 4, wearing a black ball cap and grey tee shirt in the area of Adelaide Street, near Gatchell. Police say now they’re searching the area of Lake Laurentian Conservation area. They’ve asked the public to stay clear. Poulin is described as being 5-foot-6, 175-pounds, with brown eyes, brown hair, and a scruffy beard. Anyone with information regarding Poulin’s whereabouts is asked to contact police at 705-675-9171.
 

Sault Ste Marie city council expected to recommend border stays closed.

Sault Ste Marie City Council’s next meeting on July 13. They are expected to debate whether Sault Ste. Marie’s border crossing should re-open to U.S. citizens travelling for tourism, recreation, entertainment or other non-essential reasons. While it is a federal decision, the Mayor says council will easily pass a resolution calling on the federal government to keep the travel ban in place.
 

Male charged for carrying a firearm on city bus

A man was charged Friday after bringing a gun onto Sudbury Transit. On July 3, Greater Sudbury Police were called about a man sitting in the back of a bus with what has been described as a rifle. Officers were able to stop the bus, escort passengers off, and take the man into custody without incident. The man was later charged with firearm-related offences and drug offences.
 

More bear sightings in North Bay

The MNR is reporting Bear sightings from the weekend. Multiple residents in the north end of the city near Widdifield are reporting a large black bear was seen going through the neighbourhood. Sightings occurred near Carruthers Street, Aberdeen Avenue, Moffat Avenue and Harrison Street off McKeown.
 

Soo settles on Sidewalk Work

The City of Sault Ste. Marie has released its 2020 work program for curbs and sidewalks. This year, they’re proposing to re-do nearly 1,300 square meters of sidewalk, 650 linear meters of curb and 11 accessibility ramps.
