Many drivers were packed at the pumps last night, as an average 14-cent price hike went into effect at Gas stations across the Province, the highest it’s been since August of 2022. While there are a number of contributing factors, many are asking senior levels of government to take action.

The City of Greater Sudbury is working to replace GOVA Transit shelters. In 2024 the goal is to replace or refurbish 12 bus shelters.

Speaking of Transit… $785,000 in provincial money is going toward transit investments in North Bay. It is the city’s allotment from the 2023-24 Gas Tax program.

More information has been requested from the administration at Timmins City Hall before council approves a project to make more public washrooms available around Timmins. Maintenance and cleaning are among the top questions.

The recreational lock at the Sault Ste. Marie Canal National Historic Site will remain closed until August. Parks Canada says the closure is necessary to manage restoration work on the site’s historic Powerhouse.

In a truly Canadian announcement… the City of Elliot Lake is apologizing that, due to a mechanical issue with the Beavertails trailer, they will not be able to travel to Elliot Lake this weekend, according to the city webpage.

The Province has confirmed, it has hired about 600 forest firefighters this year. While there is room for more, the recruitment number is “well within the range” the province aims for, according to Natural Resources and the Forestry Minister.

Well-known labour leader and president of the North Bay and District Labour Council, Henri Giroux, has resigned. He’s being replaced by Acting Vice President Rob Boulet.

ATVers will be out about on Timmins city streets will be open to off-road vehicles. This week city council approved a bylaw to allow ATV access to some west-end streets to get to trails and services such as gas stations or restaurants.

Meanwhile, Sault Ste Marie City council says tweak have been made to property taxes Municipal bills for 86.5 per cent of local residential properties will increase $17.67 per month or less.
