Theft of poppy coin boxes under investigation

Sudbury Police Service is investigating the theft of several counter-top poppy donation boxes. The Legion says their working actively with Police to find those responsible. This far, a total of seven-coin boxes have been reported stolen.
 

Two residents missing

Missing Teen – Keana Vincent, 16


Sudbury Police are looking for a missing teen. She is 16-year-old Keana Vincent. She was last seen in the afternoon of Saturday afternoon in the downtown core of the city. Keana is described as being 5’0” tall, weighing around 160 lbs. with medium-length, brown hair. She was last seen wearing a black hoodie, brown pants and white running shoes.

Missing Man – Jack Kuipers, 64


The Greater Sudbury Police Service is requesting the public’s assistance in locating 64-year old, Jack Kuipers. He was last seen on Monday, October 30, 2017 in Chelmsford. There is a concern for his well-being due to length of time he has not been seen. Jack is described as Caucasian, 6’1” tall, weighing around 280 lbs. with straight, short, balding, blonde hair.   Further information, along with vehicle information can be seen below:
He was last seen driving his 2002 black Chevrolet Silverado that has a front chrome push bar, chrome handles, chrome gas cap cover and a black tonneau cover. The vehicle has an Ontario licence plate of 5283VC.
 

Get your flu shot, for others’ sake

As cases of the Flu are coming up in the fall season, the Health Unit is encouraging everyone to get their flu shot. A statement released this week from the North Bay Parry Sound District Health says it not only protects the recipient from the flu, it protects the old, the young, and vulnerable from getting ill due to the contagious nature of the virus.
 

The cost of rent, is going up

The costs of renting is going up in Timmins. The 2016 say that the average renter is paying $886, up $173 from 5 years ago. However, many land lords say they have no choice, saying that they’re paying $1,233 in monthly shelter costs in 2016, compared to $1,023 in 2010. The housing data was released last month.
 

No traffic changes to busy intersection

No traffic lights or stop signs will be installed at Third Line East and People’s Road intersection in Sault Ste. Marie. City council received a report in response to a January resolution that asked city staff to report on possible changes that would help improve traffic flow in the area. But city staffers say that the six collisions over the past three years, would not been avoided strictly by a multi-way stop control.
 

Library name change, recognizes former Mayor

Sault Ste. Marie’s Centennial Library is headed for a name change. A report this week says that it will renamed in memory of former mayor James L. McIntyre. McIntyre, saw the opening of the Sault Ste. Marie International Bridge and served on the Bridge Authority for over 50 years, serving as the city’s mayor from 1960-1964. He died at the age of 88.
