Snow, snow, snow…

Much of the North East, including Sudbury and North Bay is expecting its first significant dump of snow today. With highs around zero local blowing snow this afternoon with around 5 cm falling. In addition, evening temperatures, could be as low as -18.
 

Travel Advisories in effect

A winter weather travel advisory has now been put into effect for North Bay, Powassan, Mattawa. West Nipissing, South River and Burk’s Falls.  This is in addition to the travel advisory already in place for Greater Sudbury, and area.
 

Highway reopened after fatal collision

The Northeast OPP say that Highway 17 between Long Lake Road and Country Road 55 in Greater Sudbury has been cleared, following a major accident. Two people were killed in a collision yesterday and a third was taken to hospital with injuries.
 

 CN rail in court over Gogama derailment

A Timmins law firm says they’ve filed a class-action law suit against CN Rail in connection with the derailment of an oil tanker train and subsequent oil spill that occurred on March 7, 2015. Canada’s Transportation Safety Board filed a report in August saying that a broken section of rail was the cause of the derailment.
 

Province misses timeline for railway funding

Meanwhile, the future of Huron Central Railway between Sault Ste. Marie and Sudbury remains undecided. This is after deadline has passed without a funding commitment from the provincial government. Huron Central Railway says it needs roughly $3.7 million per year, for the next five years in order to make infrastructure improvements that will allow the freight line to continue.
 

Theft of Poppy Boxes under investigation

Now just two days before Remembrance Day, Greater Sudbury Police say they’re looking into the theft… of Poppy Boxes. Katelyn Dunn is with Sudbury Police and says it’s sad to see someone lose sight of a very important day.
