School Buses Cancelled in North Bay Area, Espanola, Massey

School Bus and School Purposed Transportation to all schools in North Bay, Mattawa, East Farris, West Nippising, Bonfield and all areas in between are cancelled today. Elsewhere, School Bus and School Purposed Transportation to all in Espanola and Massey are cancelled today. Schools remain open.
 

Sections of highway 144, 17 closed

A note for Sault Ste. Marie Drivers heading North this morning. The Wawa Detachment of the OPP say Highway 17 from Batchawana Bay to Wawa, is closed due to bad weather. There is no detour available. In addition, Highway 101 East is closed from Highway 144 (Timmins) to Highway 17 (WAWA). No school bus services within the section of the closed road.
 

Property Tax discussed by city council

Property tax increases were the discussion of Greater Sudbury city council this week. While a tax levy currently stands at 2.8 per but the work isn’t over yet. More debate is expected this week by the finance committee over what else to include before it reaches a possible 3.5 per cent.
 

More coming for North Bay trail

North Bay cyclists will be able to peddle further in 2018 thanks to new dollars for cycling infrastructure in Ontario. $93 million was announced from Transportation Minister Steven Del Duca, up from a previously announced $45 million. North Bay’s share is $50,000 which will be used to pay for the environmental assessment and design of the proposed extension of the Kate Pace Way from Memorial Drive to Gormanville Road.
 

Man charged in arson in court this week

A Timmins man slapped with an arrest for jumping a court date was back before a Timmins Judge this week. The 58-year-old is accused of forking over cash to have someone else burn down a building he owned. When he failed to show up to his trial, a bench warrant was issued for his arrest. He will be back in court next month.
 

9-months in jail for drug dealer caught in Sudbury

Elsewhere an Ottawa man will spend the next nine-months in jail (followed by 6 months house arrest) for dealing cocaine in Greater Sudbury almost three years ago. The 28-year-old pleaded guilty this week, in Superior Court to cocaine possession for the purpose of trafficking, turned over in a major drug bust at a city hotel in January of 2015.
