A 3% tax increase finalized for Greater Sudbury

Numbers were finalized at Tom Davis’ square last night… punching out a number many were expecting… Greater Sudbury approved its 2018 budget Tuesday, which includes a three per cent tax increase. It will see a 7.7 per cent hike in water and sewer rates out of total spending of about $564 million.
 

More coming for North Bay Museum

Elsewhere North Bay city council will kick in another $121,000 for building repairs at Discovery North Bay Museum. Council said this week to provide the funds needed for structural repairs and improvements that include new windows and masonry rehabilitation. The work was approved by city politicians in September when council agreed to contribute up to $107,000 for the work.
 

Drive according to conditions, not posted limits – OPP

If you’re heading either south from Sudbury to Toronto this morning, or north from the big city into Sudbury… the OPP say Highway: Hwy 69 at Britt is closed due to a collision. Details have not been released. It is unknown if there is a detour in place.

Strike continues for Sudbury Counseling Centre

Workers with the Sudbury Counselling Service are back on the picket lines this morning, after talks broke off between the worker’s union and the Counselling Service this week. The 12 counselors went on strike Oct. 16, on the same day as faculty members at Ontario colleges also hit the picket lines.
 

Brassard will serve again, as board chair

The Northeastern Catholic District School Board some new and returning leadership. At the board’s inaugural meeting, Rick Brassard re-named as Chair while Colleen Landers was elected to Vice-Chair. Brassard says he is honoured to serve as chair for the 2017-18 year.
 

Blue-Green Algae in December? You bet.

If you thought it was a summer thing, think again. Blue Green Algae has reared it’s ugly head once again. This time, Algoma Public Health is advising residents and visitors of a confirmed the bloom on the bottom of Bass Lake in Blind River. This is according to water samples taken on Dec. 5th, 2017.
