The city of Greater Sudbury has a GTA marker in the city. A giant crane at the eastern edge of downtown Sudbury. It’s there this week to assist in the construction of Project Manitou.

The City of North Bay has created more opportunities for outdoor recreational activities. Multi-use court surfaces have been added to Graniteville Playground off Gordon Drive, and Ferris Lions Park off Massey Drive.

The first stages of work to upgrade two Timmins bridges started this week. The bridges over the Mattagami River and Porcupine River are being rehabilitated as part of this year’s Connecting Link work.

Fire officials say two new active wildland fires in the northeast fire region of Ontario. Among them, Sudbury 2, was confirmed yesterday and is not under control. 8 hectares in size, and located approximately 3 kilometers northwest of Bannagan Lake.

In Sault Ste Marie, the flow of St. Marys Rapids is increasing as gate settings at the head of the St. Marys Rapids will be increased from a setting equivalent to approximately one-half gate fully open to a setting equivalent to approximately three gates fully open.

Place des Arts in Sudbury is looking for a new leader. Jean-Gilles Pelletier, its executive director, has stepped down for personal reasons.

The curbside bulk item collection hits the streets in Timmins this week. The service will be moving across the city in the coming weeks to pick up large items, and leaf and yard waste until May 17.

A store renovation valued at almost one million dollars is poised to kick off a long-awaited rebirth of Station Mall in Sault Ste Marie. The $950,000 building permit was the largest of 113 permits issued by the City of Sault Ste. Marie in April.

The Latchford Fitness Centre is expanding. Latchford council passed a motion to approve new rates for its fitness centre and expand the fitness centre space, located in the Latchford Recreation Centre.

Schools in the Sixth Avenue area of Timmins were closed today as a precautionary measure. It’s all linked to a police investigation in the area.

The Sudbury region is seeing the 2nd forest fire of the season. Located near Bannagan Lake, Sudbury 2 is eight hectares in size and not under control.

If you’re in North Bay, and if you notice a police drone activity over the city today, not to worry… The North Bay Police Service is taking part in drone training with its policing partners from Peel Regional Police and Ontario Provincial Police.

Careless Smoking may have been the cause of a fire that sparked up in the Conmee Ave. area of Sault Ste Marie. It resulted in a home sustaining some fire and smoke damage; no injuries reported.

In the Elliot Lake area, Conseil scolaire du Grand Nord and the FEESO have ratified a new four-year collective agreement. The ratified deal covers the period starting Sept. 1, 2022, and ending Aug. 31, 2026.
