Vehicle pedestrian collision sends one to hospital

A greater Sudbury Woman was taken to hospital yesterday, after being struck by a motor vehicle. Police, Fire and EMS all responded to a collision involving a pedestrian on Regent Street near Telstar Avenue at around 4:30pm. There is no word as to possible charges.
 

NBRHC balances books for 2nd year

The North Bay Regional Health Centre says they’ve balanced its books for the second consecutive year. But, it hasn’t come without cost. While this year’s $225 million budget didn’t call for layoffs, President and CEO says this is following 350 positions being cut over a period of about six years, including 30 positions eliminated last spring.
 

Take down simulated at Northern College

Crowds of people watched, some took photos, during a high risk take down involving an armed man in a stolen car yesterday at Northern College Tuesday. All part of a larger training scenario put on by the Police Foundations students. The school says they were using first- and second-year students to show the practical side of the program.
 

Bust on Highway 17 nets $68k in drugs

A major dug bust has gone down in Sault Ste. Marie. This is after thirty pounds of pot was allegedly found stashed in two hockey bags, discovered during a vehicle stop on Highway 17 near Algoma Mills. This was after the vehicle was seen traveling at low speeds on the highway.  The drugs have an estimated street value of $68,000. A 33 Halifax man is facing charges.
 

$ 3 million library planned for Callander

Plans for the new Callander Public Library have now been published… a state of the art facility pegged at about $3 million. The Library says that in addition to the books, a new 10,000-square-foot building will have a circular fireplace, large windows overlooking Lake Nipissing, spacious meeting rooms, computer stations a lounge area.
 

Upgrades to Sault Library complete

Meanwhile, upgrades and repairs are not complete at the Centennial Library in Sault Ste. Marie. The library says that portable toilets were needed over the winter at the front entrance of the building. The 50-year-old facilities have now been upgraded, the second capital project done at Centennial Library over the past year and a half.
