CUPE National takes over local branch

In North Bay, the national branch of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (or CUPE) says they’ve taken control over Local 139. The group that represented 950 staff members at the North Bay Regional Health Centre says a decision was made by local executive came after cutbacks, layoffs, and the relationship between the union and the employer was said to have created sizable stress levels. CUPE says they’re now dealing with more than 117 grievances at the national level.
