Fire pegged at 250k

It was all lights and sirens to a duplex on Albert Street fire yesterday in Greater Sudbury. It was just after 6:30am when the call came in; a total of 21 firefighters, four fire stations and six vehicles responded. Thankfully, while no one was hurt, damages have been pegged at $250,000.
 

Assault under investigation

The Greater Sudbury Police Service are investigating a late night assault. It happened yesterday on Colonial Court. Investigators are requesting anyone in the neighborhood, perhaps who has security video footage, to contact them immediately. A male is in hospital. It is believed to be a targeted attack.
 

Over 3,000 residents left in the dark

Roughly 3,300 North Bay Hydro customers were without power Sunday night. The wide-scale outage happened in the Highway 11 N, Thibeault Terrace, Ski Club, and Airport areas. The cause has been listed as a blown transformer, power has since been restored.
 

Spring clean up brings out roughly 100

More than 100 neighborly types were out Saturday in South Porcupine, attempting to make a difference in their community. They were at the White Waterfront Conservation Area in South Porcupine doing a mass garbage clean up. The spring clean-up, organized by by the Porcupine Lake Information Group, is expected to be the first of many.
 

Two Soo men dead, following plane crash

Two Canadian Sault Ste. Marie residents are dead after their single-engine plane crashed over the weekend. The incident involving the 67 and 75-year-old men happened shortly after 10 a.m. Saturday at Sault Ste. Marie Municipal Airport. The Canadian-registered homebuilt aircraft hit the ground near the runway, according to the Federal Aviation Administration public affairs office. Foul play is not a factor.
 

Businessman to run to Nippising Liberals

The Provincial Liberals in Nippising now have a Liberal Candidate. Local businessman Stephen Glass. Glass accepted the nomination yesterday. Glass has had lifelong involvement in services for at risk youth, children and the disabled.
