Charges laid following explosives lock down

Charges have been laid after explosives were found at a residence on Tedman Avenue in Greater Sudbury. It all came to an end at around 2:00am Saturday, when the scene was by the Tactical Unit, Criminal Investigations Division Detectives and members of the Forensic Unit. They say four homemade explosive devices were located in one unit of the building, and in a detached shed as well. The 34-year old man that was taken into custody on Friday has been charged with a number of charges including Possession of Prohibited Device, Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, and using Explosives.
 

Two taken to hospital after tuck winds up in waterway

North of North Bay, the Temiskaming OPP responded to a motor vehicle collision over the weekend. An entire big rig truck, with two on board, wound up in Angus Lake near Rabbit Lake Road, south of Temagami. The highway was closed in both directions until Hydro One could deal with a number of downed wires. Two were sent to hospital for treatment.
 

Vehicle Fire closes road briefly in Timmins

Timmins Fire fighters were called to the scene of a vehicle fire Sunday. It happened at the entrance of the Whitney Cemetery, during the evening hours. It appeared that nobody sustained injuries, but Fire emergency trucks did block off the road for some time dealing with the blaze, prompting vehicular traffic to turn around.
 

Two involved in weekend collision

Two drivers in Sault Ste. Marie had their weekend plan cut short with a smash up, in Sault Ste. Maire Saturday. Significant damage was done to two cars involved in a collision in the parking lot near the Metro building and the Peewee Arena on Northern Ave. there is no word as to charges, nor the cause of the crash.
 

Additional safety measures considered

The city of North Bay is considering additional measures, when it comes to safety. The possibility of phasing out right-hand turns on red lights and extending pedestrian crossing times is being considered. In a presentation endorsed by city council, a group named Vision Zero says these are all low-cost measures would make a difference in increasing community safety.
 

Timmins man walks into lake, following disturbance

Timmins Police Service say they responded to a disturbance call this weekend. It came from a residence on Seventh Avenue and Toke Street Saturday morning. They say one individual was acting irrationally and before walking away, and then right into Gillies Lake, fully clothed just off Lakeshore Drive. TPS officers, EMS paramedics and firefighters attended the scene where the man was about 30 feet from the shore line. Once on shore and transported to hospital.
