Rainfall warnings in effect for Timmins, Sault

A rainfall warning is greeting some on the way out the door this morning. Those in Timmins – Cochrane – Iroquois Falls, Sault Ste. Mare and St. Joseph Island are among those on the list from Environment Canada. They say a moisture laden low-pressure system from the Southern United States is expected to track northeastward across Lake Superior by tonight, bringing with it total rainfall amounts possibly approaching 50 mm.
 

$1.4 million dollars coming 10 research projects

A million dollar infuse for research in the North. Laurentian University researchers have received $1.4 million from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada. It is all to fund 10 research projects. Reports say that the money will support new discoveries and the commercialization of ideas, leading to sustainable growth and new jobs.

Two suspects, caught on camera are wanted by Police. North Bay Police Constable John Schultz says it’s all in the theft of what would normally be pocket change.

Several hundred dollars of loonies and toonies have been stolen.
    
Details: Suspect #1;  Female, ball cap, dark hoodie, long hair, large shoulder bag or purse (beige), black pants and white runners.
Suspect #2;  Male white, late teens early 20’s dark hoodie, ball cap, dark coat, jeans, red and black back pack and black and white shoes.
 

A look into homelessness in the North: Timmins

Another look into homeless, right here in the North. This week, number from Timmins say that between 700-1000 are homeless, and in some cases sleeping outside. Those who work with those in need say that in quiet laneways in the downtown core, to the train station, to Gillies Lake Conservation Area remain hotspots, and several awareness campaigns are slated for today.
 

Two suspects sought for theft, fraud

Sault Ste. Marie Police Service are asking for assistance in identifying suspects in a theft and fraud. They say on this is after an unknown male attended at the Macs Convenience store and the Petro Can located on Boundary road. That was when, allegedly he used a stolen bank card to purchase prepaid Visa cards and lottery tickets totaling over $200.00. In a separate incident, a female suspect attended the Macs Convenience store located on Boundary road and used the stolen bank card to make purchases of $90.00. It is unknown if the two cases are related.
