Rail service back in the North?

Passenger rail service could be rolling through northeastern Ontario by next year. At least that’s according to an advocacy group known as “All Aboard Northern Ontario”. They say a consultant has hired to examine the viability of the plan that would see a new passenger service, called Northeast Lynx, integrate with Ontario Northland buses to bring extended service (with rail) back to the North. Buses would bring outlying passengers to the train running between Cochrane and North Bay.  Service would connect with Metrolinx’s mass-transit system in the Greater Toronto Area.
 

Collision sends one to Hospital

A collision has sent one to hospital. It happened on Lasalle Boulevard near College Boreal, forcing eastbound traffic through the campus itself to Cambrian Heights Drive. As for the person in the ambulance, the extent of injuries are unknown. There is no word as to the cause of the crash, nor charges.
 

$51.5 million in drugs brought in by Crime Stoppers

Near North Crime Stoppers is releasing numbers. The North Bay arm of the law says that 2018 has pushed past a land mark. $51.5 million worth of drugs since the groups inception in 1988 and $4.2 million in property recovered, all through the anonymous tips. So far this year, $16,000 in drugs have been taken in, along with $12,000 worth of property.
 

Flood outlook launched in Timmins

Water shed levels are under observation. That is according the city of Timmins who says that with the rain fall, a flood outlook is in effect. Residents are asked to keep a close watch on water conditions and clear any catch basins in front of houses and to stay away from fast-moving rivers and streams. Anyone with questions can should call public works.
 

Sault Ste. Marie man facing charges

A 51-year-old is facing a raft of charges. This is after he was allegedly found with narcotics and several weapons in the downtown core. Following a short foot pursuit by Police he was caught, arrested and charged. The estimated street value of the narcotics alone is roughly $5,280.
 

Wanted man could be in Orilla

A wanted man by Sudbury Police, may have skipped town. This is after a notification that the Orillia Detachment of OPP is looking for escaped Sudbury jail inmate Gaston Gagnon in Orillia. According to a statement, police said there is no specific threat to public safety. Gagnon is believed to be involved in property crime.
