Salt content in the water a concern – Ontario Environmental Commissioner

Lake Ramsey is under a close eye following a recent report. Ontario’s environmental commissioner says that Greater Sudbury’s signature water body — and major drinking water source is being threatened by salt overload. They say much of this is due to oversupply of salt, derived mostly from de-icing of winter pavement and discussion is underway to discuss a solution.
 

School closures under various timelines

School closures. A discussion that brought more notes home and hands up in the recent year in North Bay than just about anything else. But, according to the Near North District School Board, the official closing day of W.J. Fricker and Widdifield Secondary School remains unknown. There are two plans being considered – the first one has Widdifield closing in 2020 and WJ Fricker shutting its do ors in 2019 and the second gives the secondary and elementary school until 2020 before doors are permanently closed.
 

Witnesses sought after pedestrian collision

Timmins Police are seeking witnesses a pedestrian collision. They say it involved a motor vehicle collision and happened Tuesday evening in the eastbound lanes of Algonquin Boulevard. This was just west of the intersection of Highway 655. The pedistrain was attemping to cross the roadway at the time of the collision.

Crime Stoppers in Sault Ste. Marie is looking for a wanted man. Nelson Max Dannrath is 51-years-old and while the details of the alleged are not available, He is wanted for three counts of THEFT UNDER $5000. A photo of Nelson Max Dannrath will be available on our website.
 

Safe injection site discussed

The last meeting of the current city council will have at least one big decision to make at their final meeting Nov. 20. As part of the city’s response to the opioid crisis, councillors will vote whether to spend $60,000 to fund an $80,000 study into whether the city would benefit from opening a safe injection site for addicts.
 

Summer in the park will be up to incoming council – Severino

The city of North Bay says they will be releasing information this week about the Summer in the Park event. Moreover, more on attendance and financial losses associated with the event. John Severino, the city’s managing director of community services, says it will be up to the new council to determine what the long-term implications those figures may have on the future of the festival.
