A weekend fire at Webwood residence

Fire and emergency personnel responded to an early morning blaze Sunday. It happened southwest of Espanola in Webwood. The call went out shortly before 4 a.m. and was responded to by the Sables-Spanish Rivers Fire Department and Manitoulin-Sudbury EMS and OPP. The Ontario Fire Marshal is investigating.
 

One in custody following a suspected arson

North Bay police have detained one person following a fire. It happened yesterday just before 3 pm in the 100 blocks of Main St. E.  The first fire crew arrived in just over three minutes to begin an interior attack, and search and rescue. North Bay EMS treated, and two people were taken to the North Bay regional health centre for treatment.
 

Community arena will re-open this weekend

The West Ferris Arena in North Bay is slated to reopen by the weekend.  This is following discussions between the city’s service contractor and engineer to replace the arena’s chiller unit. He said the plan involves beginning the decommissioning of the chiller unit this weekend and replacing it with a new unit. It will take roughly five days to complete the work.
 

Water main break closes intersection

Queen Street in Sault Ste. Marie has re-opened this morning to commuters, following a water main break. It happened on March Street.  PUC crews were spotted on the scene worked into the early morning over the weekend in the downtown intersection. A number of customers were without water while crews worked to find and repair the problem.
 

19 works set to walk off the job, baring a deal

Roughly 19 maintenance and airfield workers say they will walk off the job at the Timmins Victor M. Power Airport, as discussions are ongoing regarding a contract. A mediator has ordered both parties back to the bargaining table. A strike can be avoided if a final deal can be reached. People using Timmins Airport should expect that their travel may be impacted.
 

French-Catholic school board announces a new HR director

The french-catholic school board in Sudbury has a new HR director. Daniel Bourgeois has been appointed the chair. Bourgeois began his career at CSCNO in 2012 as coordinator of accounting services, responsible for financial statements and management oversight of government grants, purchasing, finances and payroll. He has also been a sessional professor at Laurentian’s School of Commerce and Administration and has worked at the office of the Auditor General of Canada. According to the Conseil scolaire Catholique du Nouvel-Ontario, he takes his position on March 18th.
