Deadly fire under investigation – Fire Marshals office

An investigation is underway following a Sunday fire on Cutler Lake Road in the Township of Sables-Spanish Rivers, west of Espanola. This is after suspected human remains were found inside. While nothing has been confirmed, the OPP, the coroner’s office and the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshall are investigating.

Greenhouse Collapses under snow weight

A long-time North Bay garden centre says they will rebuild following a catastrophe. This is after has Laports Greenhouses suffered a major setback after several of its greenhouses collapsed recently under the weight of snow. The 60-foot long greenhouses gave way under the weight of heavy snow about two weeks ago. The structures alone are valued at as much as $250,000.
 

Theif wanted in bag snatching

Crime Stoppers and the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service looking for public assistance following a theft. This is after an unknown male entered Station Mall, walked by the food court and took an unattended backpack before fleeing the scene. The suspect is identified as wearing a black hat, black jacket, bright green shirt, black pants, and carrying a black duffel bag.
 

School bus fire under investigation

It took 30 firefighters from 5 stations and ten vehicles to put out a vehicle fire in Chelmsford. It involved a number of school buses just before midnight yesterday. Thankfully, there were no injuries… and while there is no word as to the cause of the blaze, the damage has been pegged at $800,000
 

Time Capsule opened after 20 years

A piece of history has been opened, in the form of a time capsule. It happened at the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit as a capsule was opened in from 1998. A number of notable changes were found in pamphlets, flyers, blank client intake forms, newspapers and articles. Another notable change was found in Canada’s Food Guide and food safety stickers, to name a few. Items are now being collected for the next capsule.
 

2 charged in flight from Police, accident

Manitoulin OPP has laid charges following a flight from Police. This was following an attempted traffic stop after a vehicle was spotted going at a high rate of speed. The drivers, instead fled, and later located subsequently involved in a collision. Two people, a man and a woman, both in their 20’s are facing charges.
