The Bears are Online

Those at the Cochrane Polar Bear Habitat say… webcams are back online after an over 4-month outage. The cameras allow keepers to track the five marine mammals on a minute-by-minute basis while giving the rest of us a peek in on the action. The group says that polar bears are facing extinction, under threat from climate change…. and they care for the bears while promoting education and research, helping the animals find much more than simply the bare necessities of life.
 

NORCAT expanding

NORCAT is looking at an expansion in Greater Sudbury. A $4-million expansion at its Sudbury underground centre will be to meet the growing demand for the development, testing and commercialization of new mining technologies. The $4-million expansion calls for an addition of just over 12,000 square feet.
 

Community living celebrated in the Province

The flag for Community Living was run to the top of the flag pole in North Bay yesterday morning. The flag raising ceremony was held at North Bay City Hall as part of community living month. A number of activities are planned throughout the month for the public.
 

Drug bust nets $27k worth of drugs

More illegal narcotics have been swept off the streets. In the latest operation Tuesday night, Timmins Police executed a search warrant at an address on Father Costello Drive in Schumacher, and seized a number of illegally obtained items, cash at just over $27,000 worth of Narcotics. Three, between the ages of 17 and 41 are facing charges.
 

Another bear sighting

Residents are once again being reminded to be bear wise as the weather warms this coming weekend. This is after three bears, likely a mother and two yearlings were spotted this week close to a Fish Hatchery Road property in Sault Ste. Marie. The three strolled around the neighbourhood, overturning garbage cans and sniffing bird feeders.
 

School Board looking to fill empty seats

The Sudbury Catholic District School Board reaching out to the public, in hopes to fill two slots. The main ask – is that those interested have financial expertise and business knowledge in order to serve on the board’s audit committee. The term is four years.

The worlds best in Badminton coming to North Bay

Two of the world’s top badminton players are coming to North Bay. What’s more, is that it will be game on as they go head to head at Ecole secondaire publique Odyssee. Michelle Li from Toronto and Beiwen Zhang from Las Vegas will show off their skills during the 11th showdown.
The two will speak with fans, take pictures.
