Some LU students looking for a pass on tuition

The Laurentian University Graduate Students’ Association is asking the university waive its members’ tuition fees for the spring/summer semester. Thus far a group of about 1,000 members and almost 300 signed a petition asking for tuition fees to be waived.
 

Two in custody following a manhunt

Two people in custody following an arrest in the James Street area of Timmins around 5:45 pm yesterday. One of them is the 19-year-old man from Toronto wanted for unspecified serious offences. A young offender is also in custody.
 

North Bay Train Museum reopens July 2

The North Bay Train Museum is planning to reopen to the public July 2. In addition to other measures, the museum will have a limited capacity of 30 people and use timed entry to allow for physical distancing within the museum.
 

Tornado touches down near Bobcaygeon

Environment Canada has confirmed a tornado touched down at Sturgeon Lake. It happened near Bobcaygeon in the city of Kawartha Lakes, just after 3 p.m. yesterday. The extent of the damage is still unclear… there were no tornado warnings issued in the area at the time.
 

Protests over bill 175 scheduled for today

The Ontario Health Coalition has organized a province-wide day of protest today. It includes noon-hour rallies in downtown Sudbury and New Sudbury. The concern, according to the OHC is that Province is trying to fast track Bill-175, a new community care act. In short, the OHC disagrees with the new approach.
 

Cost of the new rec centre could be going up.

The estimated cost to construct a new community and recreation centre in West Ferris has been revised. It could now be as much as $33.9 million based on a larger — but more cost-effective — square footage according to the Architects.

Sault Ste Marie Police are looking for suspects after someone into 34 storage units in Goulais Township in the early evening of June 3. Stolen were numerous gold rings, flat-screen television and a travel trailer.
