4-new cases of COVID-19 announced between two health-units

The Ontario government says they will provide new COVID-19 projections today. The last round of projections showed case rates had plateaued, but hospitals have since faced increasing strain due to the pandemic. Yesterday Public Health Sudbury and districts announced three new cases, which the North Bay Parry Sound district health unit announced one.
 

Walmart in North Bay slated to reopen this Saturday

The Walmart in North Bay is slated to reopen this Saturday. Housed as part of the North Gate Shopping centre, the doors will reopen at 7 a.m. This is following a fire on November 20th. The fire caused significant damage, Walmart says however they were able to donate 7,000 pounds of unaffected, safe, surplus food items to the North Bay Food Bank.
 

Timmins ski hill now the “Jamieson Resort”

The Timmins’ ski hill has a new name ahead of ski season. The Kamiskotia Snow Resort has been rebranded as Mount Jamieson Resort. The organization is also focusing on being a regional hub for all-season excellence to ensure its future viability.
 

4 charged in Sault Ste Marie incident Monday

Sault St Marie Police have arrested and charged four people in relation to an incident Monday on Edinburgh Street. The individuals all between in ages of 27 – 43. They are facing a number of charges after drugs and weapons charges were all seized.
 

Science North is seeking 500k from Greater Sudbury

Sudbury city council is considering a $500,000 thousand dollar ask from Science North. It’s all to add attractions at Dynamic Earth, including a new theatre and an exhibit on the re-greening of Sudbury. If it goes ahead , it would be in addition to the $750,000 in tax dollars from the city’s economic development wing, the Greater Sudbury Development Corporation (GSDC).
 

STOP for the school bus – North Bay Police, OPP

Drivers are reminded, once again to stop for the school bus. Since September 5 drivers, have been charged for failing to stop for a school bus with its red lights activated and stop arm extended. This past week, police received a complaint of a commercial cube van driving through the red lights of a school bus on John Street in Mattawa. The bus did have the stop arm extended. The driver from Ottawa was stopped on Highway 17, stopped and charged.

Ryan Dougan becomes new Kirkland Lake Detachment OPP commander

Kirkland Lake OPP has a new Commander. Ryan Dougan has been promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant and is now the new Commander for the Kirkland Lake Detachment. The Staff Sergeant began his career with the OPP in June of 2007 and was transferred to Kirkland Lake the following year.
 

Algoma District School Board will spend $18 million on capital projects

Algoma District School Board will spend nearly $18 million on more than a dozen capital projects for the coming year. They will all be at area schools and main office in the coming year. The English public board is “tendering more projects than normal,” but if tenders come in “higher than expected” the board “can trade them off” with other projects.
