Apartment Fire displaces 10 in Greater Sudbury

Greater Sudbury Fire Services responded to the scene of an apartment fire yesterday. The call came in from Stanley Street. Crews were required to tear into the building to find hot spots. The cause of the fire is still unknown, but the investigation is ongoing. Between five and 10 people are displaced as a result of the fire, but the red cross has responded.
 

OPC announces a new president – Lisa Collins

The Ontario Principals’ Council has a new president. Lisa Collins, the acting executive officer for the Near North District School Board. Currently, there are 5,400 members. Elected just ahead of the weekend, Collins’ presidential term runs until the end of the 2022 school year.
 

Porter Airlines returns to Timmins, Sault Ste Marie in October

Porter Airlines says that come September, only one northern Ontario destination is in the first group of scheduled. Thunderbay. Porter announced today that flights are resuming to select destinations on Sept. 8th. Timmins and Sault Ste. Marie is set to resume on Oct. 6. The service will be based on passenger demand.
 

East Algoma OPP looking for suspects following a theft

East Algoma OPP are requesting assistance in identifying suspects involved in an incident of theft. This is after unknown suspects attended 79 Mallard Dr in Johnson Township and removed a 2020 CAN-AM Renegade 1000 black in color. This ATV has a unique decorative plate on the front of the ATV which is painted fluorescent green. The approximate value of the ATV is $25,000. It has Ontario marker ONL27.
 

Construction on Cassells in North Bay reducing lanes

North Bay drivers are reminded of Construction on Cassells Street. Lanes will be reduced to a single lane in each direction at Third Avenue for the rest of the workweek. The work is taking place to upgrade water and sewer mains on Third Avenue, the City says. Third Avenue West was recently named on CAA’s worst road of 2021 in Ontario’s combined North and East regions.
 

KED construction to begin next fall

Construction on the Kingway entertainment district is slated to begin, once again, come next year. The delayed project – would see site prep take place from November of this year until next June. Actual construction of the arena would begin in September 2022.
