Discussions are underway on where to spend $4 million dollars

The City of Greater Sudbury is seeking input from residents, as to what to do with $4 million dollars. It’s for the Lively/Walden area following the sale of Meatbird Lake Park. As previously reported, the park was sold to Vale at a cost of $4 million, which is twice what the city originally paid to purchase the property from Inco.
 

2nd driver succumbs to injury following a collision

A second person has died following a two-vehicle crash. It happened on Highway 11.
The crash happened around 6:30 a.m. on Oct. 5 on Highway 11 in the Englehart area. One driver was found dead in their vehicle. The driver who was air-lifted to the hospital has now died.
 

Algoma U signs a new agreement in Brampton

Algoma University’s School of Business and Economics in Brampton has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the group Altitude Accelerator. The goal is to assist area entrepreneurs and students through the Investor Readiness Program. The hope is to bring students and founders together through experiential learning.
 

Min of Environment, Conversation and Parks announces blue-green algae bloom

The Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks has advised Public Health Sudbury & Districts of a blue-green algae bloom. Found in Lake Panache in late summer? it does contain species of cyanobacteria that can produce toxins. Public Health has not said if the blooms are still present or why it took nearly two months for the information to be released.
 

Foodbank restocking shelves thanks to community food drive

In Temiskaming Shores in Haileybury is stocking the shelves. It’s all thanks to a recent Community Food Drive. The volunteers welcomed donations of non-perishable food and cash during this week’s initiative. Donations at a variety of locations around the area support food banks serving Temagami, Temiskaming Shores, Englehart and the Cobalt, Coleman and Latchford area.
 

APH has Thanksgiving tips ahead of the long weekend

Algoma Public Health is sharing some tips when it comes to Thanksgiving Gatherings. They say that while a full vaccination is the best way to protect against COVID-19 during family gatherings, it’s always best to stay home if not feeling well. They also recommend having plenty of supplies for hand-washing and sanitizing on-hand, and making sure that your turkey has been fully cooked.
 

Gas prices are still on the increase

Possibly, more pain at the pumps as you’re on your way to work. Gas prices are hitting record highs across Ontario heading into the Thanksgiving long weekend. Reports indicate some gas prices in Greater Sudbury alone were at 148.9 cents per litre yesterday. And this is all before travelling.
 

South River looking into COVID-19 vaccination policy

The Village of South River has begun the process of creating a COVID-19 vaccination policy. It would be for employees and volunteers of the municipality, including its firefighters. A draft document, discussed in late Sept. 27 by council, is now being circulated to all stakeholders for input.

Temiskaming Shores OPP is looking for Auxiliary Members. Various duties include:
• Community Policing
• Crime Prevention Initiatives
• Community Events
• Patrol
• And Public Service
Applicants need to be a Canadian Citizen or permanent resident
• Age 18
• Ontario Grade 12 or equivalent
• Class ‘G’ driver’s licence with a good record
• No criminal record for which a pardon has not been granted
• And Certified in First Aid and CPR
 

Timmins Police looking into Motor Vehicle Collision

Timmins police are looking for witnesses, following an MVC. It happened between SUV and an electric scooter early Tuesday evening. The 29-year-old man on the scooter was seriously injured in the incident that happened at Montgomery Avenue and Preston Street. The female driver of the SUV remained on the scene. Both vehicles are in police custody for mechanical fitness appraisals.
