Cambrian on course to start as planned

Cambrian College says their Winter Semester will begin on Jan. 10 as planned. The school says the new mandate will have very little impact, as mandatory hands-on labs will continue to take place on campus while theory courses have transitioned to virtual delivery until at least Jan. 28.
 

Bigger will seek re-election in 2022

Sudbury Mayor Bigger will seek re-election in 2022. First elected in 2014, Bigger will be seeking a third term.  That said, it is too soon to start campaigning and installing election signs which happen in May and August at the earliest.
 

North Bay will vote on 2022 budget, next week

North Bay city council will be voting on the city budget for 2022… at next week’s meeting.  This year is also an election year, with some constraints on municipal activities during its “lame duck” period. A number of factors, including the Cassellholme redevelopment, have meant a closer look at the numbers leading up to the vote.
 

Timmins Police say a missing man has been found safe and sound

Timmins Police say a missing man has been fonund. 36-year-old Charles Sinobert-Jefferies was the subject of a missing persons incident. He has since been located and his well-being has been confirmed.
 

PUC Services starting move toward electric vehicles

PUC Services in Sault Ste Marie will jumpstart its efforts to move toward the electrification of its vehicular fleet this year. To that end, they will acquire at least nine fully-electric vehicles before the end of 2022.  They’ve been able to source a number of mid-sized SUV-type vehicles.
 

Elliot Lake Public Library open for curbside pickup

The Elliot Lake Public Library is reassuring patrons they are open for those who would like resources, albeit though curbside pitch up.  Patrons can request materials by placing a hold online or by phone. Curbside pickup will be available by contacting the Library.
 

North Bay Police looking for the rightful owner of building materials, machines

North Bay Police are reaching out to the public in an attempt to find the owner of a number of building supplies and machines. This follows the recovery of a trailer with suspected stolen property inside. Included in the trailer were building materials, a chainsaw and a snowblower.
 

Timmins will host the Under-18 championships… next year

Those with Canadian Under-18 curling championships say even though this year’s event in Timmins will not be going ahead, Timmins will play host next year. The event will be held at the McIntyre Curling Club next February.
 

Collision in Sault Ste Marie said to be minor in nature

A collision in Sault Ste Marie was said to be minor just ahead of the drive home. Shortly before 3 p.m., a two-vehicle collision blocked the intersection of Gore Street and Albert Street. Paramedics were on scene tending to at least one individual.
 

Speeder pulled off the road

One more speeder is starting 2022 in the passenger seat. West Nipissing OPP stopped a vehicle at a high rate of speed on Highway 69 in Cox Township, in the Sudbury District. The 35-year-old driver from Woodbridge was stopped for racing a motor vehicle and driving while suspended.
 

ReThink Green is doing home energy audits

ReThink Green in Greater Sudbury is starting up on home energy audits. The agency has hired a home energy auditor and will launch a corresponding program later this month. They say they’ve seen a demand for years and their goal is to help homeowners and businesses reduce carbon emissions and find energy efficiencies.
 

No hospital COVID cases says NBPS Health Unit

Good news from the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit. In their latest update, there were zero hospitalizations for COVID-19. The general public has been told to avoid seeking a PCR test unless they are showing symptoms.
