Power was restored to all customers by around 4:20 p.m. this afternoon, said Greater Sudbury Hydro. The cause was an underground cable issue. Cambrian Heights Area.

Halfway through the month and most of the Northeast Region is showing high fire hazard. An extreme hazard has been posted for the areas to the northwest of Onaping Falls, along Highway 69, Killarney, French River, Magnetawan, and the Kawartha Highlands.

Meanwhile, the first wildland fire of the season for the Sault area was confirmed earlier yesterday. Sault Ste. Marie District fire No. 1 measures 1.5 hectares and as of late this afternoon was not under control.

St. Joseph’s General Hospital Elliot Lake (SJGHEL), the City of Elliot Lake, and the Elliot Lake Physician Recruitment Committee, are pleased to announce the signing of a new Emergency Department (ED) physician: Dr. Helene Bouchard.
The city of Greater Sudbury is investing more than $62 million into 2023 roads projects. A number of major projects with council-approved budgets that will begin this year, including the construction of a roundabout at Frood Road and Lasalle Boulevard; valued at $4.3 million.  The others are:
• Reconstruction of Struthers Street from Regent Street to Junction Creek; $4.5 million
• Reconstruction of Elderwood Drive from Camelot Road to Greenbriar Drive; $4.9 million
• Reconstruction of David Street, westerly from Paris Street; and Marion Street in the McNaughton Street area; $6.7 million
• Pavement rehabilitation along Panache Lake Road, from MR 55 to St. Pothier Road; $2 million
• Infrastructure upgrades along Anderson Drive, from Third Avenue to MR 24; $10.5 million

The annual clean up has taken place under the waves in North Bay. It happened at the North Bay Waterfront Marina. The North Bay Scuba Club was back in the lake over the weekend, hauling up dropped and forgotten items big and small.

Sudbury’s Health Sciences North is dropping mandatory masking in some parts of the HSN building for visitors, patients and health-care workers, following the lead of many hospitals across Ontario.

The Hollinger open pit lookout is set to open June 1st.

The OPP is reminding motorists that their studded winter tires must be off their vehicles before June 1.

Two new orchards are being planted in the city of North Bay. Clean Green Beautiful (CGB) North Bay has partnered with Trees4Nipissing, Eagle Tree Service and Canadore College on the initiative. Orchards are being planted at Silver Birches Public School and École Secondaire Publique Odyssée.

Sudbury’s Health Sciences North is dropping mandatory masking in some parts of the HSN building for visitors, patients and health-care workers.

The city is of Timmins looking to bring back the popular spring clean-up, with the bid coming in more than $377,000 over what’s budgeted there could be changes to the program this year. The annual curbside collection is a chance for residents to throw out bulky items for free.

The Sault Ste Marie Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has postponed the “Police Week” Open House scheduled on May 17, 2023.

Staff is switching on many of the city facilities’ water systems today. This This will include Burley Park and the washrooms, Spine Beach and Spruce Beach and the washrooms, Westview Park as well as the Simpson/Westview trailer park.
