Charges pending following incident involving Sudbury Woman

Charges are pending against a woman following a major incident with Sudbury Police Saturday morning. During the incident, an apartment window smashed out, the female barricaded herself in the apartment, and made starting making concerning comments regarding her wellbeing and that of the general public. In addition, a fire was started in the apartment that was extinguished by Sudbury fire services. Roughly 6 hours later, the woman was taken into custody and taken to Health Sciences North with minor injuries. The investigation is ongoing.


Founding doctor, dies at 87

The founding doctor behind Northern Ontario’s first organized cancer clinic has died. Dr. Peter James Fitzpatrick was said to have started a monthly clinic in Sudbury, back in 1964. Born in London, England in 1930, Fitzpatrick was said to have survived the Blitz during the Second World War and went on to study at the Westminster Medical School in London. He was 87 years old.


Warning of a Hydro One scam

Another wave of scams has hit the North Bay area, and city Police have issued caution. On August. 24th, someone called a resident presenting themselves as a Hydro One representative. They then offered rebates for furnace updates. Hydro One says it has no such assigned representative.


Brown calls for more education

Leader Patrick Brown was in Timmins just before the weekend, introducing a bill calling in the face of the growing Opiod crisis. The bill details out a request for the Liberal government to invest at least 10 per cent of their advertising budget into an Opioid and fentanyl awareness campaign. Brown says this is a big issue in Northern Ontario and public education is key.


One new fire in the region

One new fire has been confirmed in the Northeast Region. A fire known as Cochran 26 covers 200 hectares and is being observed. This is one of 13 active fires in the region, many of which are being observed to allow for ecological benefits to the area.


Tentative agreement ratified

The AIDS Committee of North Bay and Area have announced that a tentative agreement has been ratified. The move concludes one year of negotiations. The union represents 11 workers at the AIDS Committee, including social workers, outreach workers, medical professionals.


MVC’s down… but there’s a catch

There’s good news and bad news according to the Timmins Police when it comes to Motor Vehicle Collisions in the city. Kate Catin says that when it comes to the numbers from the first half of the year…

Motorists are asked to drive with care… especially with the school year just weeks away.


Break-in under investigation

North Bay Police say they’re investigating a break-and-enter at a Kingsway Avenue Residence. Constable Ken Ayers is with city Police and has more.
