Tentative Agreement Reached

The Laurentian University Faculty Association (LUFA) and the school says they’ve reached a tentative agreement that will end the faculty strike. While the agreement is subject to ratification, both parties are saying this morning, they are committed to moving forward together to make sure that the return to class is smooth. Classes will resume on October 16th with reading week.

Kate Pace-Way under more construction

Meanwhile more construction is expected to interrupt recreation goers this weekend. The city of North Bay says the Kate Paceway will be closed from Decaire Road to Cranberry Road will be closed for much of today, due to trail resurfacing and repairs.

Male charged with Break and Enter

Sault Ste. Marie Police Service’s Break and Enter Unit arrested a 20-year-old for theft and possession of stolen property. It is alleged that he took a wallet from a parked vehicle and used a bank card to make just under $130.00 in purchases. He then did the same thing to a second vehicle where he used bank cards to make purchases. He will be in court next month.

Timmins Police suspend search… again.

Timmins Police have once again suspended an expanded ground search launched last weekend in an effort to find a missing resident. They say 44-year old Christopher Rivers was reported missing Aug. 28th.

Police watching for the “Big-Four”

Drivers can consider themselves warned headed into the long-weekend. Police everywhere have launched “Operation Impact”, which begins today, the focus of which looks to take down distracted drivers, impaired drivers, aggressive drivers, and speeders.

13,000 pounds collected

The North Bay Food Bank are calling their Fall Food Drive was a great success, and it’s all just in time for Thanksgiving. After going door to door throughout the community, students from St Joseph-Scollard Hall, Widdifield Secondary and West Ferris Secondary collected a total of just over 13,600 pounds of food.

Mayor issues second statement on Volunteer Firefighters

Sudbury Mayor Brian Bigger has once again issued a has issued a statement on the reprimanding and firing of 11 volunteer firefighters over comments they made about a plan to overhaul fire services. City council held a closed-door meeting earlier this week to discuss the issue.

Missing man, possibly in North Bay

Police and family members are hoping someone in the North has seen a missing Markham man. York Regional Police believe 38-year-old Eugene Kim could be in Algonquin Park after he was spotted buying a park pass with an unknown person on Monday afternoon. Police also found his cellphone had been used near North Bay earlier that day.

Four men stopped in counterfeit charge

Elliot Lake OPP say they’ve pulled in four individuals allegedly involved in a possible counterfeit scheme. It all started when the SUV they were driving pulled into a Webbwood gas bar. Reports say they tried to use a counterfeit US $100 bill. After pulling out, they tried the same stunt in Massey before heading further West.

“Every Second Counts” – Sault Ste. Mare Fire Services

This coming week is Fire Prevention Week, and the Sault Ste. Marie is encouraging everyone to have a plan when it comes to getting out in case of a fire. Under the theme “Every Second Counts: Plan 2 Ways Out!” Authorities say “Fire and smoke move faster than you think, and a plan needs to be in place ahead of time.

SPCA seeking info on deceased dog

The Ontario SPCA is seeking information from the public about a deceased dog. They say it was discovered on the roof of a business in Lively. Additional details aside, the investion continues and anyone with information is asked to contact the SPCA.

TansCanada Corp Suspends Pipeline

TransCanada Corp.’s says they’ve suspended its application to build a proposed 4,500-kilometre pipeline that would go straight through North Bay. Energy East was conceived as a way to ship Alberta oil sands production as far east as Saint John, New Brunswick… and in the process, would have crossed the mouth of Trout Lake, potentially destroying the source of North Bay’s drinking water with a spill.

53-year-old charged in Assault

Sault Ste. Marie Police Service have brought a 53-year-old female, after she allegedly assaulted her common law boyfriend. Charges were laid after, according to city cops after the woman punching the male in head, and then assaulted him with an edged weapon.

Small business week is coming

The Timmins Chamber of Commerce are putting out a call to small businesses in the city. They that before the month is out, Small Business Week will once again present an opportunity to collaborate on ideas pushing the community forward and honour everything Timmins has to offer.

Whale of a photo-bomb!

And finally, an 11-year-old boy photo is going viral… the B.C. boy was when a gigantic humpback Photo bombed his attempt at a Selfie in a spectacular jump, nearly leaving the water. The event happened just west coast of Vancouver Island, just meters away from the fishing boat.
