A child is recovering following a river rescue

A child is going to be okay following a heart-stopping moment in Kirkland Lake. OPP responded to a report of a child that fell the Blanche River in the Town of Kirkland Lake. Nearby members of the public reacted quickly, retrieved the child from the water, beganing CPR. Police arrived on the scene and were able to resuscitate the child, who was then taken to the hospital by EMS for assessment. The child has since been released. The OPP would like to thank the members of the public for their quick actions and bravery.
 

Timmins YMCA is closed following a COVID outbreak

The Timmins Family YMCA will remain closed until further notice. This is after an outbreak of COVID-19 reported at the child-care centre. This is after a staff member reportedly tested positive for the virus. That staff member had not been on site since April 23. Upon closing the facility, a deep clean is being done. Contact tracing is underway and close contacts have been notified.
 

Have a “Look” into the S.C.R.A.M. program

North Bay Police is inviting residents and businesses to join the SCRAM program. The acronym stands for Security Camera Resource and Mapping. Police say the goal is not to monitor people’s security cameras but to cut down on canvasing during an investigation. Roughly 100 homeowners and businesses have signed up for the voluntary program.
 

Input sought in Lasalle Boulevard Corridor Assessment Plan

The City of Greater Sudbury is seeking input into the Lasalle Boulevard Corridor Assessment Plan and Strategy. First endorsed by the council in 2018 and adopted as an Official Plan amendment in April of last year, the strategy seeks to adopt a new framework that includes more public transit infrastructure and policies for improving the look and use of public and private lands.
 

5 new cases of COVID-19 in Greater Sudbury, North Bay

Public Health Sudbury and Districts announced 5 new cases of COVID-19 yesterday and 4 recoveries while the North Bay Parry Sound Health Unit also announced 5 new cases. Elsewhere two additional COVID-19 cases are being reported tonight, bringing the total number of cases reported in the Porcupine Health Unit region today to four.
 

Fire is called in on Melvin Ave in Greater Sudbury

The fire at a home on Melvin Avenue in Greater Sudbury is out thanks to a quick response from Sudbury fire personnel. It closed the road at Kathleen Street, and send four people to HSN with minor injuries. The call came in at around 2 pm in the basement walkout area of the building. A cause has yet to be determined.
 
Meanwhile,
 
Sault Ste Marie City police have charged a 31-year-old with arson. This is following a fire at a residence in the 200 block of McNabb Street around 4 a.m. on April 30. The fire caused some damage to the residence. The accused will be in court next month.
