Missing Woman Found Deceased

The search for a missing Greater Sudbury Woman has ended in tragedy. Darlene Sweeney was found deceased yesterday less than 48 hours after going missing. She was found in a field off Kenneth Drive in the Valley by members of the GSPS Search and Rescue Team.
There is no foul play suspected.
 

Care home application made to Powassan

The township of Powassan is applying for 96 long-term care beds. 30 more than the 66 aimed to be replaced at Lady Isabelle Nursing Home in Trout Creek. Last year Lady Isabelle’s licence was revoked for ongoing non-compliance of provincial regulations.
 

Fire at the Grandview

It took multiple rigs and 30 fire fighters from a number of stations to force down a fire at the Grandview Hotel in Schumacher yesterday. Reports say that the Timmins area blaze broke out at the three-storey apartment complex shortly before 4:30 a.m. There were no injuries.
 

Three injured in car crash

Three people have been injured in a two-vehicle crash in Sault Ste. Marie. It happened at Wellington Street East and Kohler Street yesterday afternoon. Their injuries were not life threatening. The crash closed part of Wellington for a time, forcing traffic into a detour.
 

NOP candidate selected

The Northern Ontario Party in Timmins says they’ve selected a candidate to run the Spring provincial election. The catch is that party, however, has declined to reveal who that candidate is — at least for the time being. The interim campaign manager says the party plans to make that announcement once the election is called.
 

Man taken into custody for theft

A 34-year-old Sault Ste. Marie Man has been taken into custody for theft. It is alleged that just over a month ago, the accused attended a business in the 400 block of Great Northern Road where he selected just under $170 worth of merchandise and left the store without paying. He was located and arrested this week.
