College looks at year-round program

School could now be on, year-round at Cambrian College. The Sudbury College says that an increase in enrolment, particularly from international students, they’re trying a year-round approach to the academic year. This year, for the first time, the college will be accepting students for a semester that starts in May.
 

Job openings up in Nipissing

It’s time to dust off the resume, especially if you live in the Nipissing area. At last count nearly 389 job vacancies were advertised in Nipissing District, according to the Labour Market Group. That’s up by 328 from last year’s count. The average hourly starting wage posted for vacancies (where information was provided) was down to $17.01 in some place from $17.31 in January and from $18.59 in October of last year.
 

New X-Ray Machine coming to the North

New technology has come to the North Shore Health Network in Richards Landing when it comes to health. The Sault Ste. Marie area location says they’re the first of the three NSHN sites to receive an updated X-ray machine. It’s a new portable digital X-ray machine, now in service made possible by the work of donors.
 

Vehicle Rollover results in no charges

Timmins Police say they responded to a vehicle rollover early this morning, blocking off part of Algonquin Boulevard in the process. It happened shortly after 1:00 a.m.. Timmins firefighters attended the scene to help paramedics remove a person from the vehicle. No charges were laid.
 

New schools coming to the North

Two School Boards are proceeding with the Construction of New Catholic Schools in Espanola. The Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario and the Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board trustees have approved the construction of a joint facility aimed at enhancing French and English Catholic education. Reports say that $25.2 million dollars from the Ministry of Education, will allow the construction of two distinct schools on the current Sacred Heart School and former St-Louis de France Catholic Church properties. The shared site will accommodate students from Sacred Heart Catholic Elementary School, École Saint-Joseph and École secondaire catholique Franco-Ouest. Construction is slated to begin this spring.
 

Giroux will run for NDP

With just over 2 months to go until a Provincial election, the NDP for Nipissing have announced they are going with Henri Giroux as its candidate. The party is planning a nomination meeting for tomorrow night at the North Bay Public Library. Giroux will be going up against PC incumbent Vic Fedeli.
