Mayor calls for more immigration to the North

Timmins Mayor Steve Black is calling is week, for help from Ottawa when it comes to attracting more immigrants to Northern Ontario. It was all apart of the Northern Ontario Large Urban Mayors meeting that happened this month. Black says that’s key to seeing growth in the North. It’s an idea backed by all the Mayors, including Sudbury’s Brian Bigger, North Bay’s Al McDonald and the Sault’s Christian Provenzano.
 

More construction coming for North Bay

A major overpass for some in North Bay… will once again be reduced to one lane. The eastbound traffic on the Trout Lake Road Overpass will be reduced to one lane as the contractor has returned to complete the outstanding works on the bridge. This lane closure is only temporary.

Capitol Centre back in the red

The Capitol Centre North Bay had another rough year in 2017, at least… according to the numbers recording a deficit of $161,000. The company says that’s on an annual budget of $1.7 million, and a huge change from 2016, when it showed a slight surplus of $1,268.
 

Plumbing Program a first at Sudbury College

Collège Boréal in greater Sudbury is has launched a first for Ontario. They say a new plumbing program is geared to students studying in French.  The plumbing technician program will be starting this coming September.
 

Place des Arts $250k closer to final goal

The Place des Arts in Greater Sudbury has received another financial boost and now construction is set to begin in a few months. The francophone arts and culture centre received a ¼ million donation from Desjardins Group this week. A $30-million project has been conceptualized and will include a five-storey facility that would have a 300-seat theatre; a 150-seat studio and rehearsal space.
 

Wanted: Raymond Scott Gregoire, 34

Sault Ste. Marie Crime Stoppers is looking for the public’s help in located a wanted man. Raymond Scott Gregoire is 34-years-old. He is wanted for on a number of charges including trafficking, breach, break and enter, and theft. His photo can be seen below.
