Campers bunk out in North Bay, following evacuation

As a number of forest fires continue to burn in the Province, an evacuation at a Temagami camp Thursday forced roughly 100 campers to take refuge in North Bay this week. This is after campers and staff at Keewaydin Canoe Camp were urged to leave the area by OPP. The kids, who range in age from 10 to 13-years-old, were brought to Memorial Gardens where they were fed and accommodated. They were then, transported to Nipissing University to stay before flying home.
 

Wanted: Andrew McNichol, 28


Police say the have issued a warrant for the arrest of a Greater Sudbury Man Andrew McNichol. While the details of all the charges against McNichol have not been released, Police say the latest is after jumping a court appearance. The 28-year-old is is described as 6-foot-2 and 160 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.
 

The chair is running for a seat on council

Near North Chair, David Thompson is running for city council. Thompson is now joining 11 other candidates who have already declared their intentions their intentions to run for the city of North Bay. Thompson says that in addition to bringing a new voice to city council, he also brings 25-years of community experience.
 

Boy struck by vehicle, minor injuries

It’s was all hands-on deck yesterday in Timmins, and the investigation continues, following another motor vehicle collision with a pedestrian. This time, it was a boy who was struck on Sterling Avenue. Upon arrival, Police found the bicycle indented in the front end of the sedan. Paramedics determined that the boy who was riding the bike was OK despite some bruises and scrapes.
 

More cabbies at Sudbury Airport

Frequent flyers out of Greater Sudbury may soon see a few more cabbies out front of the Sudbury Airport. A six-year contract that gave Sudbury Cab the exclusive right to line up outside the Sudbury Airport has expired making way for any cab provider can provide service. This is following a review of the way cab companies do business at the airport brought on by increases of between 15 – 18% in recent years.
 

Maple Syrup Meeting pulls in hundreds

The Ontario Maple Syrup Producers’ Association have once again kicked off their annual general meeting and summer tour in Sault Ste. Marie. Algoma-Manitoulin-Kapuskasing MP Carol Hughes, and Mayor Christian Provenzano were on hand for the events kick off that included the planting of a single maple tree on the campus of Sault College. Roughly 200 maple syrup producers are expected to attend.
