Reduce water consumption by 10% – Sudbury Conservation

When it comes to water consumption, Sudbury says residents are being encouraged to hold off on filling the glass to the top. A spokesperson for Conservation Sudbury says that levels have been below normal since February and the forecast shows no significant change in sight. While there are several lakes in the Sudbury area, some water levels are lower than the seasonal norm, and residents are encouraged to cut back by 10%
 

Roadway re-opens following accident

Regional road 55 has reopened in Greater Sudbury has been reopened following a major weekend accident. The collision happened Saturday evening and was large enough to close the road in both directions until late yesterday. It is unknown if there were any injuries in the accident, nor whether any charges were laid because of the crash.
 

38-active forest fires remain active in the Province

To the forest fire situation in the Province. New numbers say that as of yesterday, there are 38 active forest fires in the Northeastern. Three new fires were confirmed Sunday with one declared out. The other two fires, one of which is in the Timmins area, is receiving aerial suppression. The perimeter around Parry Sound 33 remains restricted.
 

Woman charged with $5,700 fraud

A Timmins woman has been taken in for an alleged fraud. Officers say the reported fraud is involving a retail employee at a store in the city’s west end. TPS says since the beginning of March the retailer lost about $5,700. The 28-year-old suspect was arrested last Thursday. She is facing one charge of theft over $5,000. She will be in court next month.
 

SSM buses on new schedule this fall

The city of Sault Ste. Marie says that with the upcoming school year, some city buses will be running on a new schedule. The city says that it will begin on Sunday and is the result of rider feedback. Some of highlights include all buses returning to half hour service from 6:30 a.m. – 6p.m. Monday to Friday. Riders are asked to contact Transit Services for more.
 

Concern mounting over new building project

The shovels are not yet in the ground, but residents in the Southview Drive area of Greater Sudbury already have multiple concerns about a building project. Not the least of which is, many don’t know what it will be. Some residents said they were told it will be a retirement home and others were led to understand it would be for small families. Canada Group Inc. have had the land on Robinson Lake since November.
