20 cm of snow possible for tonight

A special weather statement says that significant snow is expected for Sault Ste. Marie , Sudbury and area, along with North Bay, Powassan, Mattawa and West Nipissing. Environment Canada says snow is expected to begin Friday afternoon and persist into Saturday. Total snowfall accumulations of 10 to 20 centimeters are possible by Saturday morning.
 

Fake snow… banned for Sudbury films?

Film makers in Sudbury could now be joining North Bay, banned a foam product used to simulate fake snow. While no decisions have been made a review is underway and product meetings are taking place between city staff and the film industry. Many , including those working in the industry have suggested the foam product isn’t a danger especially when diluted from concentrate. A petition calling on the city to reverse the ban in North Bay has been launched.
 

Good Samaritan Inn ready to reopen… almost.

The Good Samaritan Inn in Timmins has so sign of stopping now, as new beds could be available at a new location very soon. The homeless shelter burned down about two weeks ago, leaving 14 people out on the streets, but a new location is nearly ready to open on Bloor Street. 10 people are still being housed at the Senator Hotel but that could change this week. It is more than 2,500 square feet in size, with a number of halls ways and seven rooms.
 

Elliot lake senior dies in scooter accident

An 80-year-old Elliot Lake man has died following an accident involving a motor vehicle collision. Reports indicate he was riding a mobility scooter on Hillside Drive South over the weekend when he was hit by a minivan backing up out of a driveway. A 55-year-old was charged with careless driving.
 

Closure slated for Sudbury roadway

A possible snag up for Sudbury commuters this morning on the way to work or school. Road Closure on Maley Drive is thanks to a water main repair. The thoroughfare is closed from Falconbridge Road to Lansing Avenue. Detour signs will be posted.
 

Drug take down in Powassan

Powassan OPP have completed a major take-down in Powassan. This is after they attended a location in the township and initiated a search. They located both a firearm and illegals drugs. A 45-year-old male from the Municipality of Powassan, Ontario, has been arrested is facing over 7 charges total.
