Snow clearing causes major overages in Sudbury

The numbers are now starting to come in when it comes to winter maintenance in Greater Sudbury. In short, The city received more than 388 cm of snow from November to April or about 13 feet. The year-to-date thus far presents an over-expenditure of approximately $2.9 million. The biggest over-expenditures were in materials and contract services.
 

Search for missing man continues

The search for a Northern Ontario man continues. Twenty-one-year-old Nicholas Rivard was last seen March 24th in Cobalt. Last seen on March 27th, the search has now been going for nearly three weeks. Rivard is about six feet tall, weighs 170 pounds, his eyes are brown and he has medium lengthy, black wavy hair.
 

3 new dog parks eyed for Greater Sudbury

Three new Dog Parks were discussed at yesterdays Sudbury’s community services committee meeting. One would be in the Donovan, near McNeil Boulevard, the second in New Sudbury. Staff are also eyeing land in the South End, adjacent to the Countryside Arena for an off-leash dog park. That park would cost less than $40,000 to set up.
 

Sledding trails shutting down

It’s time shut down the engine and tuck away the sled. That’s the word from the Timmins snowmobile club this week. Trails will close for this season effective Wednesday. The trails will be listed as “unavailable” on the OFSC Interactive Trail Guide as regular grooming will stop, gates will be closed, and signs are being removed.
 

Road work projects starting up in Greater Sudbury

Sault Ste Marie City council is now digging into a number of road work projects. Reconstructing Third Line, between Black Road and the Sault Area Hospital entrance, is the city’s priority project. It’s all part of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure program application.
 

Mental health walk comes to North Bay

The push is on when it comes to more for Mental Health. Memorial Drive will be the site for the first ever Defeat Depression Walk here in the city of North Bay. Organizers are hoping that the May event will raise close to $10,000 which they say will go towards funding for more peer support worker training in the area.
