The Premier hints at a “Stage Two” in economic reopening

Premier Doug Ford says health officials are in discussions about the second stage of the province’s economic reopening plan. He hopes to bring it forward over the next week.

Numbers of new cases have gone up and down in the two weeks since Ontario entered stage one, and the province has previously said it wants to see a consistent, two-to-four-week decline in new cases before reopening more.
 

Two new cases of COVID-19 in Northbay Parry Sound District

Two new cases of COVID-19 have been reported by the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit. A female in the 60-79 age group is in hospital. A male aged 20 to 39 is self-isolating. The infection was a result of community transmission.
 

Capital Levy discussion deferred

Greater Sudbury’s finance and administration committee has deferred their decision on where to use their 1.5 per cent capital levy. The capital levy report equal to 4.1 million was first brought forward back in January, with options laid out as to where the city should allocate the funds. Options include to arterial roads, local roads and buildings and facilities as the key priorities.
 

 ATV accident deemed fatal

A 65-year-old has succumbed to injuries following an ATV accident. It happened on Manitoulin Island during the middle of the afternoon. It happened on Skipper Lane, in Gordon Township. Investigation has since revealed that the ATV left the roadway and the investigation is underway.
 

Lake Superior water levels up

While conditions around Lake Superior were drier than average in May, significant rainfall events in the middle and at the end of the month has resulted in additional record-high water levels. It has posed a continued risk of shoreline damages in the coming months. Lake Superior rose 5 cm over the course of the month.
 

HSN – Please wear a mask

HSN in Greater Sudbury is now asking all patients and visitors coming to the hospital to wear a mask. In short, it’s an added step to reduce the spread of germs and protect vulnerable patients. Handmade masks are acceptable and are available.
