No new clients for now at Sudbury Cedar Place

The Salvation Army in Greater Sudbury says the Sudbury Cedar Place is putting a hold on accepting any new clients. It’s all as a result of the outbreak being declared by the health unit yesterday. The hold will remain in place until the Cedar location is officially cleared by the health unit.
 

HSN looking to identify COVID-19 outbreak source

HSN in Greater Sudbury is now working to determine the source of two COVID-19 outbreaks. Both were recently declared at the hospital – one on the sixth floor of the South Tower, where the COVID-19 unit is, the other on the fourth floor of the South Tower, where the surgical unit is. As a result, they have had to put further limits on the visitation of designated care partners.
 

Algoma Public health identifies 4 new COVID-19 cases

Algoma Public Health is reporting four new cases of COVID-19. Two are from Sault Ste. Marie and area, one is from Elliot Lake and area and one is from central and east Algoma. Through contact tracing, the health unit says they will notify all close contacts directly.
 

City Police – STOP for the school Bus

North Bay Police are reminding drivers to stop for the school bus. Numbers aside, they’ve seen an increase in the need for enforcement throughout the month of March. The community safety zones in school areas we’re going to be targeting speeding infractions in those areas as well.
 

Memorial Gardens set to be mass vaccination site

Memorial Gardens in North Bay could see as many as 120 people per hour beginning next week, as a mass vaccination site. Starting Monday, vaccines will be administered to those over the age of 80. Appointments must be made through the Health Unit’s phone line or Ontario’s vaccine portal.
 

OPP – Stay OFF the ice

Vehicles are being reminded, once again, to stay off the ice. This is after a 47-year-old and his dirtbike when through the ice on the Blind River (behind W.C. Eaket Secondary School) in the Town of Blind River. East Algoma OPP, Fire and EMS responded. The Opperator was able to crawl out on his own. The Ministry of Environment was notified and approximately two hours later the dirt bike was retrieved out of the river. It managed to contain its fuel.

Sledding season over in Timmins area

Snow mobile season has come to an end in Timmins. The Timmins Snowmobile Club made the announced this week that that local Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Club trails are now listed as unavailable. Grooming operations have also stopped in the area, due to warmer weather.
